2016 W213 E-Class - Revealed

I like this a lot and I'm looking forward to seeing the estate.

The E400, E450, E43 (or whatever they decide to call it by the time arrives) really appeals to me. The engine in our SL is just great and would suit the E perfectly. Hopefully with 4matic as well.

Hey Red. How's the new car doing in the first month of ownership?

Ant.

Ant.

I've not used it much to be honest, we picked it up Christmas Eve, had all the usual holiday stuff then I went on a cruise for the first two weeks of January.
So it's managed 300 miles so far. 700 more miles until it's run in.

I was looking forward to a day out in it today but it snowed :(

First impressions are we absolutely love it and looking forward to some nice sunny weekend drives.

It is super smooth on motorways and there's just the right amount of power to make overtaking completely effortless. It's a really nice balance.

Are you by any chance talking about the new straight 6 quad turbo diesel? I think that will be amazing.

Mercedes really have fallen quite a long way behind Audi and BMW with their big diesel engine. I have driven a brand new E350 Bluetec diesel and it feels plenty quick. However when you think that BMW already have a triple turbo with more than 100bhp and 100lbft more than the Mercedes, you can see that Mercedes really had to do something.

That particular version of the W213 hasn't actually been mentioned officially yet, which is interesting. I hope it comes to pass and wasn't just a rumour

Apologies, i never read your post fully. You don't get a diesel SL.

No the petrol 3.0 V6 tt is what I'm interested in, it will be a slightly more tuned version of the 400 in our SL.

Now we have a second car we'll do about 8k-9k per year in each car which isn't great for a diesel motor.

We have an E 4 pot diesel, and it's a great car but it lacks that smoothness that you should have with an E. 6cyl engines suit that car better unless you want a V8 dragster.

So it appears details of the new Mercedes E Class are now available on the MBUK website http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/passengercars/home/new_cars/models/e-class/e-class-saloon.flash.html

However, as someone else commented early on, lets see what the UK team do with options and sure enough all those lovely pictures we have seen, which are likely the German or US aimed models, don't exactly play out in the UK from what I can see.

If you want the AMG Sport line, then you are limited it appears to a black interior, non of the various interesting interior colours options, forcing you to the SE route (so a possible upgrade if you want better wheels). Likewise, if you want a pano roof, you have to have this as part of a bigger package, with elements that you might not want (like improved audio system).

Comand Online has returned back to an expensive cost option (I had it included 3 years ago), which you have to get if you want the new larger screens. Talking of which, you then have to add another £495 if you then want both screens upgraded to the larger ones....total outlay £2000 (for both bits).

All the self drive/advanced (pre-safe and the likes) features still remain an option. Nothing appears to have made a step-up into a standard feature. I have for instance the speed limit reading in mine (was part of command) but appears to be part of safety package...so another lump of cash addon.

Things like the boot autoclosing, which Ford and Vauxhall now have as standard on many models, still not included as standard on a E-Class. I know I'm picking, but you expect a level of refinement.

Exterior colours are also reduced by the looks of it, certainly in the UK. The same 6-7 colours. I suspect other markets will have some further colour options.

For me, unless the dealers are going to offer larger contributions to offset these costs, I personally think after 15 years, I'm going to consider rival brands.

Other than some lovely interiors, the outside reminds me of a group of Asians going for a late night English meal.
I hope it looks better in the metal.

20" wheels - yeeeesssss!:thumb:

Best keep a closer lookout for those pesky potholes.

Auto boot closing and self driving systems aren't standard in other German competitors. They have to cater to a wide range of customers and the large majority don't want autonomous driving systems. Why fit them as standard?

You can have saddle brown or black leather nappa interior on an AMG Line

COMAND is standard on 350d. Garmin standard on 220d.

keyless starting also standard

SSA me as the S-class, nice little touch

Nice but to similar to the C class, may be just me but i like to see each model have its own look without morphing into each other.
Saying that the trim looks great in the car.

I suspect that it's not so much that a large majority of customers don't want autonomous driving systems, but that they don't want to pay for autonomous driving systems.

Incidentally, I just spec'd up an E 350 d AMG Line Saloon (I note that MBUK aren't listing any of the petrol engines on the configurator  ) and with a similar spec to my E63 it comes to north of £55k - which makes my 11-month old purchase look something of a bargain.

There aren't any petrol models current in the UK lineup

My point exactly. Once again, MB UK are out of step.

Not at all. The previous generation car didn't sell at all well in its petrol variant. It will be arriving in the autumn, but I don't think it will cause trouble in the meantime. The GLC is sold out with us until late May and there's no petrol model.
