Hi all. during the recent (and rare) high temps we experienced here in Ireland, 24c in my locality, the driver side was taking the full brunt of the sun, even with the windows opened. And yesterday, for the first time, I noticed hairline marks on the drivers side seat, just along the padding nearest the door. Anyone else experience this? And if so , any recommendations to make to prevent it getting worse? Thanks.

How bad is it do you happen to have a picture of it

That’s not to bad that should be able to get sorted with some sort of leather treatment

I've heard that some Vaseline rubbed into the fabric would help softer the fabric, and help to preserve it. I'm going to try it anyway. But the sat cover will be a permanent feature on that seat from now on. I know that its not at a bad stage presently, but you know what its like, when you see even a slight blemish.......I remember the first MB that I had, a 2010 E class w212, with the infamous Artico seat material, and it had split right across the driver's seat. The car ran perfectly, never a bother on it, yet I replaced it long before its planned replacement time was up....and all because of the split Artico seat covering.
Anyway, Thanks for your interest and comment on the post,
All the Best Jim.

Here it is after the Vaseline treatment, looks far better in the flesh so to speak, but its an improvement in any case, I left the seat cover off for the time being, to let the fabric soak it up. Hopefully, it will do the trick. But be warned, having the interior exposed to bright sunlight and high temperatures will not do the seat covering any good. And I think that the fabric is the same old Artico, and not genuine leather either, but maybe someone knows better?
Thanks for the help, Jim.

Hi I think if I remember some cars used what was called MB - tex

MB Tex was a great old material, very thick and durable. I had a W108 with a blue MB Tex interior that I remember turning my nose up at it a bit at the time and even tried to source a set of 2nd hand cloth or leather seats to swap them for. I soon got to like them though and realised how immensely hard wearing the stuff really was. I had a W166 ML for a while with Artico seats and though the stuff looks a lot more convincingly like leather its isnt as tough durable as the old MB Tex used to be. My pre facelift S212 seems to be part leather and part Artico

Yes, it was also called ARTICO, if my memory serves me right. Gave endless problems mainly in MB w212's. possibly other models too!.

Seems that you and Bigdrew are correct, They are two different materials, Artico and MB-Tex. Unfortunately, the fabric in my 2018 E class w213 seems to be Artico....

Here's a pic of the seat after treating it with Vaseline :- For some reason, it wouldn't load in an earlier post...

That looks a lot better. Do you slide about in the seat going round corners though ?
LOL......No, because I'm using a seat cover!! I'll let nature (time) take its course, and we will see what happens then. I'm not a big fan of the shiny appearance of the fabric now, but if it stops the deterioration of it, I will suffer on bravely.
