Hi All
I've a Year 2000 C180 (202) with a tiptronic type box........Its developed a fault.........
The ABS light and the handbrake light come on and the car goes into limp mode. This seems to happen when ever I don't pull away in a straight line or I have to do a tight manouver(?) e.g. pull into a parking space in a carpark. The vehicle has been in to a MB dealer and it came back as a faulty Lateral Acceleration Sensor..........(ouch!). In my infinite wisdom I decided to source another identical car which drove fine and had no issues over a trip lasting 100 miles. (it seems that only the models with a tiptronic box have ESP fitted). I swopped the two sensors in the boot and also swopped the steering angle sensor for good measure, then went through the reset process turning the steering wheel from lock to lock half a dozen times or so. Guess what? Vehicle is still the same....
So I took it into a nearby MB specialist told him my story and he then hooked it up and said that his machine couldn't communicate with the ABS (everything else was talking engine, transmission etc.....) so he then hooked it up to his laptop which I'm led to believe had all the latest MB techno wizz diagnostics etc. This again was struggling to communicate with the ABS but did throw up that a wheel speed sensor was faulty. One was ordered from MB fitted but the fault is still there.
He now seems to think there is a wiring issue and suggests I leave the car with him for a period of time.
Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone shed light?...........

I can live with the fault as I just switch the ignition on and off to reset it, however it would be nice to get to the bottom of it....

Thanks in advance
