While driving on motorway the temp gauge doesn't move above 60c , when in traffic goes to normal around 90 when hit motorway goes back to 60. Is that normal? [emoji849]

Thermostat needs replacing, common fault but fairly easy to do, think the part from mercedes is around 75 pounds with a litre of antifreeze.

You only lose about half a litre when replacing thermostat, just buy a 1 litre bottle of mercedes antifreeze and top back up when job is complete

Tools required are torx sockets, oil filter socket as filter housing is in the way of the thermostat

Worth doing as your car uses the temp gauge to know fuel mix, think old fashioned choke.

Only hitting 60ºc on motorways it may be overfuelling by 20%.

Just changed mine on the W211 after same symptoms, fuel economy went from 43 to 51mpg for my commute. Even managed 55 today babying it.
