just been to look at a CLK 208 55 amg cab

bit puzzled as build sheet in back of service book says 430 cab !

vin no suggests its a 430

V5 says 55 AMG

Has AMG wheels and body kit and badge on boot and engine cover BUT no where else

Looking at old threads on here there is a suggestion that cab versions had 430 data cards but is this right ...

Help anyone ?

You'll know by driving it.

A 430 cabrio is no quicker than a 320 coupe due to the 200kg of extra reinforcement.

Has it got AMG clocks and embossed steering wheel ?

has the steering wheel got raised stitching on the airbag ?

Did you check VIN on the EPC or the russian site ?

If it's a real AMG it will be signed on top of the engine & as well as what Howard mentioned the tailpipes will be AMG stamped.

on a 208 AMG engine, it's a large black engine cover with no ridges or any other colour of plastic, with a MB star and AMG writing.

on 208 V8 430, the engine cover has ridges in silver against the black plastic background.

also, look carefully on the front brakes, on the hub of the disc, you will find AMG stamped on it.

No they aren't :)

On the w208 era AMG's there are no signed plaques.

pics of s/w airbag, disc hub and engine cover .. going through my pics has made me all nostalgic ..

That's what i was trying to explain about the raised stitching on the airbag , the 430's don't have that.

Thanks Sean :)

thanks for all the comments I am really learning

my main concern is the built card and vin no as the say 430

so as the 208 cab 55 was special order is it right that it doesnt have 55 amg references on the above like my coupe 55 does ??

Have you looked the VIN up on the EPC ( not the russian one , the proper one )

Have you looked on the DVLA website for engine cc ?

W208 clk55amg cabs are very rare, you've done well to find one;)

I've only seen a couple , one was a beautiful one in designo mocha , and the other one was an azurite blue one that went in a pond.

I would say that if it has the engine cover, the brakes and the taipipe like your coupe, it's likely to be real.

One drive and you will know anyway :)

thats fine but all those bits can easily be bolted on

it feels quick but could nt really go mad in it on busy roads with owner by my side !

I want to know that is a factory one Not a repro !

Hi,
Have you checked the engine number matches the logbook? If it does you should be able to tell what engine is in the car by the first six digits of the number.
Personally I would be concerned, all the parts could of been easily swapped from a coupe.

Hi,
If the engine is a 55 the number should start with 113 984 I think, maybe someone else with a 208 CLK55 coupe can confirm this.
Have you given the vin number to your local dealer and ask whether its a gen 55?
