208 Convertible Roof - Cant find this problem

Have looked at all the threads on Roof problems this seems specific
Have replaced Switch bow ram limit switch that fits on the drive cylinder

My problem is as follows (see GF77.30-P2002KA)
Soft Top Closed
Turn lever, Push roof up
Press and hold switch (S84)
Windows drop, Roll Bar lowers (If up)
Soft Top bow unlocks
Soft top bow goes up to approx. 90 degrees
Soft top cover releases and pivots upward
Soft top bow moves into compartment
At this stage it all stops!!
I have always had to give the roof a push at this stage but now it doesn't work

If I turn the ignition Off and On And Close the roof it all shuts and locks OK
(ie Roof now closed with no lights flashing)

If I manually drop the roof into the compartment and close the flap manually
And Manually lock it with the tool
Then Turn the Ignition ON and Off
(ie Roof now fully open with No Light Flashing)
The roof all works and Closes Automatically with no Lights flashing

Hopefully its just a microswitch

Any ideas please - I am on Holiday for a week so will keep looking but cant do anything

A test of SDS (STAR) should point to where there is a fault. As you say, I would suspect a limit switch but its best to get a diagnosis first. At a guess it is not seeing the Bow lock

But surely it would not close either

Took the to MB for STAR test#
NO FAULTS FOUND

They suggested manually reading and testing everything

Which limit switches would you suggest I have fitted a new Main Bow Switch (The on that fits on the main unit that lifts and drops the roof

Strange that you have had a fault and yet no stored faults read out by STAR. Are you sure it was MB Star they used and not some other system?

Really strange this took it to the main dealer in Shrewsbury

The paper is called Diagnosis Assistance System

Filter Status ALL CONTROL UNITS

The only thing that appears to relate to Convertible Problems is
RVC Rollover Bar Soft Top Module

Other al like
ESM Electronic Selector Module
AB Airbag
PSE Pneumatic System
and about 15 other

Really not sure if they did the correct test
Did ask them to read out the faults for the roof

Fault codes

They say they used STAR
and it read all the codes and said nothing was wrong

He feels that something is out of sequence

That a switch or sensor is not right - but I knew that already!!

What is really interesting is that it all works perfectly SHUTTING
EITHER from manually being opened and locked manually
OR from where it stops opening if ignition switched of and the button pushed the other way

Just to reiterate
Everything Closed and LOcked with Roll Bard Up and windows closed
Turn Ignition on ad start engine
Turn Handle and lift Roof
- Windows drop
Press open on Button
- Roll Bar Drops
- Soft Top Bow Catch release
- Soft Top Goes Up to Vertical
- Rear Cover Catch Release
- Rear Cover goes Vertical
- Soft top Bow Drops into Compartment

Its at this stage it stops working
I Did replace the Roof Hook Position Sensor (A208 820 2310)
This is the long sensor that fits on the roof activator on the left side of the vehicle behind the door

(As mentioned earlier If I switch the ignition On/Off and press the control button the other way it all shuts as it should - including returning the Roll Over Bar (Rear Head Rests) to where they where before)

It has been suggested that the sensor(s) on the rear hatch is wrong but surely if the system detected that this was not correct the soft top bow would not drop!

There is a sensor below this that I have not tested

Does the BOW lock when it drops back down in fault mode? ie, is the BOW dropping at the end of your sequence, or is it dropping and locking

Bow Lock

When the Roof CLOSES everything works as it should

ie Cover closes and Locks down
Bow Closes AND LOCKS
Then windows go up and Roll over bars Go up if they where up when sequence started
IT DOES NOT SOUND A CHIME

The problem is just on part of the opening sequence
Cover Unlocks and lifts
BOW DROPS INTO COMPARTMENT
THEN NOTHING
as mentioned earlier I have replaced the long switch on the left soft top bow hydraulic cylinder (Soft top bow limit switch)
(The original moving part had slipped off its pin and we stuck it on with super glue. I am sure this worked for a short time. After I left it over night the new error occurred and I broke the switch removing it -- Before sticking it on we had nothing ((Obviously))

Do you know what the switch below the Soft top bow limit switch does


I was amazed that replacing this switch did not cure the problem as I would have though that this switch (Soft top bow limit switch ) would have sensed that the bow had reached its limit! {Does exactly what it says on the can}

Is there a sequence of which switch does what anywhere

I have found the article that explains how to replace the Case Cover and Bow Lock replacement but I have no fluid leaks and they all work Reservoir full)
