Evenin' all.

There's something up with the tailgate of my 211 estate. Probably my fault.

The tailgate is electric. I loaded it up earlier with carpet for a dump run and closed the (electric) tailgate over some very slightly protruding carpet.

Didn't notice anything at the time bit now realise I can't lock it.

I can lock the doors but the hatch stays unlocked

At a guess it's something to do with the latch needing to be reset or something .

Any thoughts?

Anyone?

I had another look at it. The latch seems free to rotate - it just doesn't seem to rotate round and engage in "locked" mode.

I thinks it's just a regular latch - I'll get the AA to have a look in a day or two.

Not sure on a S211... Sticky exterior handle?

I get this issue on my Accord Tourer.

Yes I've had an issue with the handle which pre-dates the current problem. The handle started sticking a few months ago and this would stop the latch engaging. But the handle is not sticking at the moment. And the latch isn't working.

I popped the local garage earlier and they suggested that it could be a problem with the wiring loom where it passes from the roof lining into the hatch. According to them when the wiring starts to fail problems often start with the handle and then spread.

Handily, though, I found an override switch on the inside of the hatch which I can use to set the lock properly to ensure it engages when the hatch is closed.

The wiring loom problem at the hatch hinge is common on the 124. Never heard of it on a 211...however :dk:
Microswitches on the 124 lock is another recurring fault and knowing of the continuity between successive models that may be worth looking at.

Thanks Druk

It's common on the 210 too. So just give it time on the 211...

Quite....

My 211 is now 11 years old and on 140k so definitely into middle age.

Having said that, bar a few minor cosmetics* and occasional electrical glitches still a great old barge.

*it could do with a wheel refurb, some leather dye and feed and some minor paint corrections

It's happening again so into the garage on Friday.

Deffo an intermittent electrical fault so it will be loom or a micro switch.

Update; turned out the problem was with the metal panel on the boot floor against which the hatch closes (slam plate?). Anyway it was loose. Now it's tight all is working fine. All for the princely sum of £40.

In other new the value of my pension has dropped 20%, most of my major clients are going out of business and I'll be redundant by January.

Thank God I can lock my boot.....

Spoke to soon. Lot of intermittent maladies have returned.

Sometimes it won't lock.

Sometimes the (electric) luggage won't go back down.

Sometimes the tailgate won't open properly off the key fob and needs me to do it via the catch.

All sounds loom-like to me.

Booked in for a service next week - will get them to have a look.

Update;

- I WAS actually made redundant in January LOL

- but my pension has recovered
- my clients are still in business
- I've just landed a new role
- and I'll have had nearly 3 months of gardening leave when I go back to work.

In other news the lock stared playing up again so I got the local garage to strip down the hatch and they found that the mechanism was failing.

£363 later and it's sorted.

Happy days.
