What is the use of those little grill at the tip??

To prevent ness building of birds and snake in the catalyst?

Or to provide a more laminary air flow at the exit of the exhaust?
Or something else?

Btw, is there a muffler already made with these tips, could be more interesting than having tose bolt everywhere...
