Hi Folks, I've just spent the day installing a home-brew in car media solution for my 09 S211 E320 CDI Sport.

It includes a power take-off from the 12v power socket in the ashtray, a 4-way 2a per socket USB power supply hidden in the space between the glove box and the dash closure panel, 2 x model b Raspberry Pi devices mounted in the glovebox, and a brodit proclip for my iPhone mounted above the centre aircon vents.

Functionality includes:
Bluetooth audio via aux audio socket
Secure Wifi Hotspot (no internet access - yet)
DLNA media server capable of streaming Video, Audio and Photos independently to up to 4 devices in car
128Gb of media storage
Only one visible wire - from the dash to the phone cradle

Basically, I can use the Bluetooth capability to listen to music, the kids (and the wife) can watch movies on their phones/ipads using headphones- for those long journeys down to the alps, or up to the relatives.

Plans for upgrades may include
1 TB storage option - so I can just dump my entire music library into the car, stream to the phone and playback via Bluetooth
Adding a GSM enabled network device an allowing the wifi-enabled Pi to route to and from the internet for mobile browsing
Some sort of headrest mount system for ipads in the back

I've added a couple of photos - if anyone is interested in the mechanics or wants the pi card images to do this themselves, let me know. Sorry they're upside down/on their side - they looked fine on the computer

Cheers

Sounds awesome. Just wished I understood most of it, it's an age thing I guess. :thumb:

Lol. In car movies and wireless music for cars that don't, or can't have those options fitted :)
