I have had the car for a while now and the spare wheel and tools dont seem to fit nicely under the boot floor,the boot floor rides up on them,someone has said that the spacesaver wheel should be stored flat,that cant be right ? or can it ?

Yes, on mine the spare wheel sits flat, it did on my Volvo too.
