I do think I would do this under a pseudonym rather than using a real identity.
I'm more thinking of doing it from a genetic interest, given that I was adopted and still don't know anything from my fathers side.

Good idea. Plus an address of a trusted friend/relative/post box for absolute surety of anonymity
I would be interested on general feedback should you do ahead with this. My ancestry is untraceable.

I'll do it using my work address and a psudonym (I'll just warn the post room).
You can buy anonymous PAYG credit cards now so so payment is not a problem.
