Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice...

The "slug" was running a little cool with the onset of winter and taking ages to get up to temperature and it would only really get there if it was idling in traffic. So I thought it was probably time to replace the thermostat.

I phoned MB in Tonbridge, who posted me a thermostat (A1102000515), got my 10% discount, thank you very much.

Whilst on the phone I got the parts guy to check if there was a gasket under the thermostat cover as I thought it would be prudent to replace this as well while the cover was off. He said yes, and put one in the post to me as well.

They arrived today and I think the gasket is either wrong, or he got the wrong end of the stick. Unfortunately, he didn't put the gasket on the invoice so I don't know the part number.

Here a quick sketch I knocked up, as I don't have my camera with me :

But the thermostat cover looks like this :

thermostatcover.jpg

3 holes and is a triangular shape.

Any ideas?

Ideally I'd like to change the thermostat today, but I don't think that gasket is going to get me very far...

Is it worth changing the gasket or would the old one be ok?

Any pointers would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Blondebier

Unfortunately i cant see the pics due to the internet nazis here.
If its a gasket for where the thermostat housins splits to reveal the t/stat then no, there is no gasket for there that i can see.

Be gentle removing bolts, I sheared one of mine with very little force which made a cheap bit of maintenance into a right pain in the ****.. Mine had been leaking a bit historically which had presumably corroded the bolt head reducing its strength.

What a difference that made! I changed it yesterday and have driven 50 odd miles since.

It gets up to temperature within 5 minutes and stays there. :)

I was hoping that it would sort out my slight heater problem too, but alas it didn't.

I get heat out of all the vents except the vent in the central console. I suspect this may be the duo valve...? But it's a tad pricy to get a new one if it doesn't need one.

Is there anything else it could be or something else I should check?

Heat is not meant to come from the centre vent, theredore keep it closed when you want heat

Really?

I guess that makes sense as it does get nice and warm in there.

I don't need a new duo valve either. Thanks!
