1999 E55..spent 87 years contemplating whether to buy one due to size of engine etc etc but have filled up after 150 miles twice now at an average of 23.2mpg.

i was stood at shell sobbing like a child out of happiness. ive had a impreza doing around 22 and an alfa doing 20!

great great car..:)

You see, my girlfriend wants me to get a diesel ML270...me thinking more ML500... your V8 experience just gave me even more determination :bannana: THANKS!

I know a bloke with a Mazda RX8 who sobs because the best he has ever got is 22mpg. Oddly it does not seem to matter much if he hammers it or drives gently,

Maybe that is down to the rotary engine

Back in 1985 I changed a mini van ( 42 mpg ) to a rover SD1 ( THE SWEENY TYPE ) 18 mpg !!!!....God knows why I bought it, I had just got married, bought my first house and travelled 60 miles a day...I once missed the turn off on the motorway and was working out in my head that it had just cost me the price of a gallon of fuel.....!!! Not the best decision in the world....kept it for three months and then bought one of the first fiesta diesels...when diesel was around 40p cheaper a gallon than petrol....and I got 53 mpg ...I felt like I had won the lottery...Its funny though because even though I am more financialy secure now than I was then I will still travel to find a cheap petrol station !!!...and I still drive a diesel. I suppose I am what you would call a petrol minge bag and hope one day I will get over it and buy a 20 mpg car !....subaru really appeals at the moment.

In the 3 months that we have had our CLK it has averaged 25.5 mpg over 4000 miles. I am very pleased as the Porsche averaged 26 mpg and needed super unleaded!!

So our change to the CLK has saved us money. Long live the 5 litre V8:bannana:

Are you pulling my you know what? Forget you shedding a tear... I'm shedding several! To say I've never pressed the trip button once since I've had the car, I've averaged 18500 miles at 24.5 mpg in a 180k :( that is so not fair! I'd happily sacrifice 1.3 to the gallon for a 55!

My 320 managed 19.8mpg on the last tank. Damn those cold mornings and short commutes to work.

Having said that, my old (tuned) Evo averaged 17mpg, required super unleaded which at the time was £1.09 per litre at my local BP garage, plus a bottle of octane boost at every fill up. It worked out to something ridiculous like £45 per 150 miles. Crazy.

your fuel consumption is related to the way that you drive :D :D

my parallel universe is world renowned as being the most happening place ever :D The trees are pink and giraffes have fluffy cauliflowers on their heads, rock on! :D

i forgot to mention that the mpg I was referring to was oil consumption. last saturday it was slightly over max..yesterday it was just above minimum..trying not to think about it.

Sorry to bust up your party, but later tonight Ill post a picture of our C220cdi Sequentronic doing 57.2mpg at the legal UK 70 AND 45.2 in Germany at 140mph..... all you big engined boys can only go 70... Im going 140 and smiling all the way to the BANK  :p :D

Just added picture of fuel economy. Used to get upto 66mpg, not been as good in recent times.
