Some suggestions, for dates for the next GTG then?

I know some of our members (Shude/Koolvin) have GTG in Europe in September and US in December.

Shall we do something in November/December in UK or wait until Jan/Feb 2003?

As some of you will know -  the other great love of my life is my Rover, I regularly attend Santa Pod for the RWYB days. As its located near wellingborough pretty close to northampton so thats central !

If you really want to run your MB you can - but beware of some very very fast cars that will very likely beat you in a head to head <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

As far as the unlikely ones go there are loads of quick Anglias, escorts, a phenominally fast X reg Mk1 fiesta with turbo and supercharger, and my mate Andys 2.0 Maestro which will destroy anything other than an all out racing car.
Then there are a lot of nice sports cars like Supras, RX7T's, Skylines, TVR's etc

Many a std Ferrari and Porsche have come to grief thinking they were quick <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

The days are full of fast cars, good fun if you happen to be a petrolhead like me. - The only downside I can see is that it costs £9 a head to get in, and if it rains and there is no racing - refunds are at the &quot;discretion of the organisers&quot;

the following dates are the last of the season
&quot;RWYB” Run What Ya Brung - Public Track Day
Sun 27 Oct
Sun 3 Nov

What do you think ?

Please dont shoot me its only a suggestion - and it wont be anything like as civilised as Maffs meet <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I am interested in that.

What's the scale and organisation of things at Santa Pod Mark? Ie Is it likely we would all find each other and would we be able to park up together or would we be dotted all over?

I would like a day at the 'Pod anyway.

My friend (also called Andy) has a 350ish BHP (proper not BullSh1t! ) RWD Sapphire Cossie, which he runs at the strip from time to time.

All those in favour say, and I vote Mark to supply more details as required!

Either date is fine with me.

EDIT: Just as spectator, not to compete!!

Well, not against any unknowns! I wouldn't mind a run against an Auto C230K, to see how I go. And a 328i and and a C230K with Air filter and exhaust (to see if the seat of the pants Dyno works) or Marks 300SL, but getting publicly whupped by a Maestro is not my idea of fun.

Doh, no definatley -  NO racing!   <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">1.8L + Auto + no asr = no pod</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>

C-Class + AMG Styling + AMG Wheels + AMG Exhaust + AMG Badge = Park up, keep quite and just watch!

I don't think anyone would keep ASR on! Don't think it's designed to help you off the line quick, or do I just not have enough power?

3.0 12v + auto + weight of a Tank = slow SL <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Just park and watch!

K - If you were to run - you would have a real world benchmark to measure the success of the turbo transplant against

Graham - Having a &quot;Head to Head &quot; with your mates is part of the fun, We regularly see the 1.4 rovers racing each other - taking close to 18/19 seconds for the 1/4 !

If I really wanted to run I would take the Rover, I have a great day out every time I go. There is an onsite Cafe, basic facilities, and loads of room to park up and have a laugh. There will be loads of small cars to race - the trouble is you dont know which one of those are &quot;safe&quot; to pick on

Dont get me wrong - this is not everyones cup of tea - I just happen to enjoy it immensely - but then I dont participate in too much physical sport these days <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Its £9 to get in - and another £10 if you actually want to run on the strip. You will need your driving license if you actually want to run.

If there is enough interest I'll try to arrange something. Though I'll almost certainly be going on one of those dates anyway - Its just a question of which car I take (or both <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> )

Apart from any reason which I cannot foresee, I am a defiante spectator, for whichever date proves more popular here.

I thought it was just the souped up fire breathing monsters! That is interesting to know.

A tenner is fair, but I'm sure my motor insurance didn't include drag runs!

I would be tempted though!

I have found what I am sure was a private farm road near me (hey it's a disclamer, I admit it! ) where I've tried a few standing starts.

ASR off, rev at about 4000rpm (the limit at standstill! ) and drop the clutch! Back end scuffles for grip, kicks out to the side, but the car doesn't half rocket away!!! Chirp of the tyres and a little kick to the side again at the rear as I enter 2nd and I'm off!

I get two black lines of rubber left on the road, so I am thinking the car has an LSD, but I don't know, maybe it's just what element of the ASR which stays active, even though you switch it off doing it's thing.

Yeah i'd be up for it &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> &nbsp;Might even go for a run just for the sake of it. I know I will be beat, but i'm interested to get a 1/4 mile time anyway. Should be fun.

Hers a list of 1/4 mile times for you to compare your car with
Click on cars and have a look

http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals_cars.htm

FYI - the Maestro runs 12.4 - my Rover will run 13.5 when I get a clutch that can cope <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

14.5 1/4 mile for my car then. Although that site recons my barge is faster than some elise's and caterhams, also not far from a Subaru Imprtza Prodrive!

Anything under 16 seconds is a reasonably quick time - under 15 seconds is quick, under 14 is very quick and anything under 13 is usually falls into the &quot;leave it well alone&quot; catagory

I would be very happy with any car capable of 14.5 seconds as supplied by the manufacturer - I wish my SL was that capable

Somewhere I have a video of the &quot;fireforce&quot; jet car running 5.99 at 250mph ! - that equals 0-250 in 6 seconds <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Yes I'm up for it,

I think I'll take the wife's SLOW ML55.

Is their not any other dates sooner, I'd hate for it to get rained off.

OK

The remaining Sunday RWYB days for this year are :

15 September

6, 13, &amp; 27 October

3 November

Anyone any preferences ?

As Billy has said, we could go earlier, I was just basing this on the request for an October/Nov meet <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

The earlier in the year we go - the greater the chance of good weather. Its a bitch when it gets rained off, but even then we all seem to find a Pub with grub

Mark

Any are fine with me. I can do 15th if people want to go earlier.

Any of the dates in October and November are fine with me. My father said he may also bring his 300XZ &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> &nbsp; <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

If want a real challenge I will bring the wifes &quot;ROVER 100&quot;!

0-60 in 2hrs and 12sec's <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

You did say 12 sec's was quick but not sure if you mentioned the 2hrs before hand <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>  <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

I actually used to race my m/bike at the pod (suzuki RG500). I got down to the low 12's then got knocked off by a large woman eating a burger whilst doing 3mph <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Back to subject, work commitments aside we would go.

Time for a new thread I think <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
