Just got car with 265 engine. Reg date 20/12/10 so the first edition. What was changed and when to improve fuel efficiency.
Is it just start stop?

The 265bhp 7G plus V6 CDi came about on the 2012MY model which started late 2011 so if yours is a 2010 it’s more than likely the 231bhp.

Mine is definitely a 265 as it’s a Dec 10 model which was when they first changed from 231 to 265 and it also states 265 on the log book, however, they then improved the mpg later on. Using stop/start etc.

I've just looked at the 2010 brochure and it's definitely listed as 231bhp. The first time I can see the 265bhp engine is in the December 2011 brochure also with Start/Stop technology.

There was a small [claimed] improvement in fuel consumption when they dropped the power to 252bhp as part of the 2013 facelift and then further improvement in Sept 2014 with the introduction of the 9G gearbox.

It’s very confusing!!! The guy I bought the car from bought it one owner from Mercedes and they stated it was a 265hp engine.
It states 265 on the V5 and 195KW on a document in the owners books. Converted this is 261.5 mechanical horsepower.
The 231hp engine is 170KW.

I don't think it's as clear cut as that. Mine is Nov 2010 and, like Markssl, the reg doc says 265bhp. It also says 265 if you enter the reg online (e.g. if you go to create an ad in Autotrader).

They definitely updated the engine in the later part of 2010 to 265 and then made a further change to the 265 engine to make it more fuel efficient. Very difficult to find any definitive info but if my car was 231hp it wouldn’t state 265 on the V5 and certainly wouldn’t state 195KW on the factory spec sheet if it was 170KW.
I’ve found the autotrader info to be a bit sketchy. The tech sheets below show the emissions getting less and the torque increasing. No torque value

for 231.

The last one shows 264hp and 398.30 torque, which is equal to 540nm. This is the torque figure for the 231hp engine. The 265 has 620nm (457.31).

Anyway mine is bloody quick whichever engine it’s got!!!
