280 cdi elegance cutting out on motorway

help - my 7 year old 100k miles 280 CDI estate keeps cutting out for no apparent reason. It also has rev surges although the two do not necessarily happen at the same time. Once the car has stopped it restarts immediately.

Has it had any work carried out on the engine recently? does it happen at a particular fuel level?

It would be a good idea to get it connected to a Star machine and see what faults there may be, Star can also record live data.

280 cdi cutting out

no work carried out recently - happens at varying fuel levels and at varying times in a journey - every other day now. As I mentioned it restarts straight away - if the car is going at speed can it be restarted in neutral ? It's been connected to a couple of machines one would not interface and the other one led the garage to tell me it would cost thousands - any thoughts ?

Find a local MB specialist with the proper MB Star computer, generic fault readers will almost certainly be of no help here.

Newbie to the forum and not very mechanically minded but I'm on my first 270 cdi CLK and enjoying it. I had the same problem a month ago engine cutting out when accelerating on motorway/dual carriageways - very hairy!. Traced it to the fuel filter, my garage changed it and I haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps
