hello everybody, I'm a new poster here but sadly with a technical problem straight away.

is there a commonly known problem with the 3.0diesel engine? In particular with the swirl flaps / intake area.

My engine has died on me and will not start. The RAC man has confirmed a fault code from the electronic throttle control suggesting turbo waste gate solenoid and / or swirlpool actuator.

and i've only had this car a few days so not a good start. Its been taken to the nearest garage and all the dealers i have rung talk of a common known problem but can someone help me with more details before i get ripped off with a long list of parts which allegedly need replacing??

Hi

Best to specify exactly what car you are having problems with. Year? model etc.

Welcome to forum, hope you get the help you need.

It will be the inlet port shut off you are talking about but it won't cause a non start.

the car is actually a chrysler 300c but the engine i am told is the MB 3.0 litre CRD.

A few phone calls to garages yestersay seemed to confirm a common problem but none of them actually said what it was.

The odd thing which surprised them all is the fact the car will not re-start at all. They mentioned a swirlpool actuator if that means anything?

When that happened to mine - it would start. Just went into a "limp mode".

Cost if I remember correctly is best part of £600. Quite labour intensive. Luckily for me had a Warranty Direct policy which covered it.

Just a thought - if they are stripping down why not get them to pop in new glow plugs whilst there (depends on your mileage and age of car) as the most costly part of this is labour. My garage did this for the cost of the plugs only (no charge for labour).

Link to my post about it ...I think it's the same problem. LINK
