Guys,

I still dont have my CL55, (still in process of selling Lexus plus the CL has been at a specialist getting ready, MOT and a clean bill of health (engine mounts were required)).

When I pick her up (cars are always female...) what does a 3 month warranty cover exactly? Suspension? Just want to prepare myself when I do take her away.

It really depends on who is offering the warranty.

Covers the bottom of your bird cage...

Im sure that its more than bird crap, all consumers have basic rights after buying goods.

Buying a used car - legal rights | AA

I dont expect tyres and general wear and tear to be considered, but if a major fault occurred I would be back to the garage.

The 3rd-party warranties supplied with second hand cars essentially protect the dealers more than they protect buyers, because the dealer would have to fix the issue anyway if a fault occurred in the first 6 months. This is one reason why dealers are so keen on supplying it, as it reduces their own exposure.

If a car has a respectable sized engine, (any V, or cylinders > 4), it's not a girl. Does a C63 have a single feminine attribute? :p

My car had a 6 month warranty, but when the AC pressure sensor gave out, I just bought a new one, it cost about £70 and a bit more to fit, vacuum and regas, and was less hassle than the part time job of trying to get that paperwork based warranty to pay for it.

Bought my car exactly a year ago from an independent dealer, with their own and RAC Gold warranties.

Took it for a thorough check up at PCS - found it needed a new A/C condenser and a new OSR tyre.

Dealer paid for a new Conti Sport 2 and RAC reimbursed me in full for the A/C condenser (and re-gas).

All in all nearly £700 worth of parts and labour, so I'd say an honest warranty is a great thing, particularly as this one didn't cost me a penny extra!

Once I put a deposit down I normally get it checked out by a mechanic before paying the balance, easier then relying on the 3 month warranty depending on how good the supplier is.
