E300 td tomtom sat nav in car dvd
Hi, ok having what I thought was a warranty rust jobby done on my 05/05/98 e300 td w210, seen the paint guy, put estimate in etc, what corrosion warranty did these cars come with, is it 6 years or 3 years, I believed it to be 6 years , but have just been informed it was only 3, and there giving the good will route a try...is it 6 or 3 .. can anyone tell me, and theres a lot of work, buy the way only had the car 4 months, approved used from mb, on mb web site it states

A used car has to work particularly hard to get our seal of approval. Mechanics, electrics, bodywork, interior, tyres, wheels, vehicle history and mileage - all are checked and double-checked before the car even gets close to the showroom. So you enjoy the kind reliability you'd expect from a new car.
its the double checked bit i like (may be they see  what they wanna see ;)

has MB actually said that you're not covered under the 1 year warranty that comes with their used cars?

they have failed to mention that, and i have not asked?????hermmmmmm

The one year warranty is for mechanical items only I believe.

The original body warranty is for six years perforation, ie rust from the inside.
Not sure about the paintwork warranty, that may be the three year bit.

I think this should have been posted in the section dedicated to "Paint care, corrosion, bodykits and spoilers"...the Bodywork forum! Moved :)

sorry ups :D

I have been to have an estimate on mine today from an independent body repair specialist. He was disgusted that MB will not honour a warranty claim as the rust is clearly working from the inside out, he said Vauxhall look after their customers better than MB. (heard that before!)

My car was first registered 04/04/98, I have been to my local dealer who submitted two claims that were both rejected.

Here is a picture of the rust around the tailgate handle. What should I do? Do I just give up and pay £450 to get it fixed myself? Or should I sell it and get a Volvo, Lexus, BMW??

Ring MB customer Services. 0800 800644 or 01908 245000.

Somehow I don't think this rust only started since the 4th of April.

Good luck

Well I have just spoken to MB Customer services, don't hold much hope as they said if it has already been rejected it will be rejected again!!

He basically said it's because it's a 6 year old car, if it had been 5 years and 6 months then that would be OK as thats when the 30 year corrosion warranty started!!

That BMW is looking more attractive. (only joking, it's not the end of the world!)

Sorry Mark for hijacking your original thread. ;)

Had a phonecall from the Service Manager at MB Kettering, most concerned about my corrosion and why it was not dealt with last year when I went to them. He asked to see the car so I took it down to him.

He agreed 100% with me that it is an obvious warranty claim and he will push as hard as he can for a whole new tailgate under warranty and he also noticed a little bit of bubbling on the rear inner wheel arch which should be sorted out under warranty.

Result :bannana:

Not quite yet!

Still have to take it to their approved MB bodyshop that happens to be MB of Northampton (Arlingtons) and they will assess it and submit photographic evidence to MB HQ. But seeing as they are all owned by the same group he said it should go through OK this time.

I asked why it had been turned down twice before, that made him wriggle a bit, but what he said without directly saying it was; that MB have so many dissatisfied customers due to corrosion problems that they have recently taken a different view and will carry out more 'goodwill' claims. He admitted that their paint was not up to the standards you would expect at one time (97/98 I guess!) and MB are trying to regain their reputation.

So fingers crossed that I might just get it sorted out. :)

Sorry for the hijack!

I have been in touch with my bodyshop (sheffield) and discussed the rust on my bootlid. They told me the warranty wouldnt cover it, but they have done quite a few goodwill fixes for customers (even 75/25) which is good enough I suppose. I am trying to get mercedes to do something, we dont buy these cars for this, and we dont have FMBSH paying them all that money to drive a rusty craphouse. just speak to them nicely though, courtesy always helps!

It's a real lottery. My late 97 W210 saloon has a tiny little bit of rust on the edge of the bootlid and a tiny little bit of rust on one wheel arch. Submitted a claim and it was accepted in full very quickly indeed and with no quibble. New boot lid and 1/4 panel being fitted next week. I may not sell it after all - it's such a good car and I'm so impressed with MB for fixing this (and the tailgate on my 2000 W210 estate which also started to go brown).

Lets hope it works out hey guys!
I will keep you posted.

DAKE K - which body shop did you go to>?

Just been to MB Northampton for the corrosion to be inspected. Photos were taken, the paint measured and all details were recorded.

This bloke was not quite so forthcoming but did say in hi opinion it should be a new tailgate and inner wing but he said there is no knowing with MB. He did say that the only problem might be as to why I have left it to get so bad?? ..........Because MB would not entertain the idea 9 months ago when I first tried!!

eskulab

After two phone calls to mbuk  and after denying any knollage of a warranty claims department  and trying many different approaches :bannana: I finally gave mb the slip and was put through to guess what the elusive warranty department , who asked for my account and dealer number  , it eventually dawned on the poor chap he was talking to a mere customer  , but managed to windle out of him that cars came with 3 years warranty 3 years paint and 6 yes 6 years anti corrosion warranty :bannana: the bloody liars at dealers  he told me most cars go in for what's called a ESKULAB which works on age mileage and the condition of the car, he said the only way was to push as hard as you can, me thinks the eskulab somehow bypasses the warranty work being done so these goodwill jobs don:t show on any reports that might fall into the wrong hands , I know security is tight but to be told" I should;nt be talking to you " is a bit cloak and dagger really get the feeling they are hiding something from us all :bannana:

Hi Both Mark and Jimmy.

Was it worth the call to MB customer services then??

I think so.

Today I had to take mine to another dealer who has their own bodyshop, bloke inspected my car and measured the paint on all panels, it has had some previous paintwork done on NSF wing and OSR door but not on the tailgate.

Both dealers agree that it needs a new tailgate but said they have no way of knowing if MB will agree due to it's age and possibly because it was originally an import. I am 60% confident something will happen but will not get an answer until early next week.

I think it definetly helped at the first dealer mention MBClub UK and how many people are getting and being turned down for corrosion warranty with no apparent rhyme or reason to it!

Thanks for those phone numbers Will.
