3 weeks into ownership problems!

i'm so sorry to read of your series of problems - sadly, the MARS RED (USA colour) Fire Opal (in Europe) has a terrible reputation amongst C-Class, SLK and such over the last few years. Check out the Bodywork thread on this forum, looking for ""C-Class Coupe paint problems" (about 14 pages of posts) also mentioned frequently throughout other sections of the forum.

Also check SLKWorld under the R172 Discussion and Search for "Paint Issues?". It's a long and sometimes arduous route but some have achieved satisfaction - others less so.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. I'll have a look at the SLK world thread now. It's so annoying to have such an issue happen when you 'assume'buying a premium brand would mean you wouldn't get these issues.

My newly painted bonnet has started to show up hundreds of little blisters under the paint. It was done by Mercedes in March. This car is the worst I have even owner.

I need to get it rejected and get an exchange from the dealer.

Already had:
New xenon lights.
New sunroof
New drivers seat cushion
New heater motor

Paint work on the passenger door has gone dull and fainted.

Paint work on the boot lid has started to go weird as well (little crisscross lines are appearing all over).

The panoramic roof rattles like crazy now.

The door cards creak if you lean on them.

And sometimes the gearbox feels like I'm pulling it out of gear forcefully. And it makes a big clunk noise.

Does this list seem reasonable to ask for an exchange 5 months after. Issues started within 2 weeks of ownership.

New car rights: Can I reject my car? | Carbuyer

"If you buy a car that becomes faulty after 30 days, but within six months from the time of purchase, the new Consumer Rights Act allows the dealer who sold it to you one attempt at repair.

If this is unsuccessful, you’re entitled to a full refund – or a partial refund, taking into account the mileage and wear and tear the car has experienced since you took delivery."

Hope the process goes well for you. You've given them multiple chances already.

We had a brand new 119 vito after 21 days and only covering 500miles from new the automatic gearbox went.

Mercedes tried their best to convince us to keep it, offering to fit a new gear box and give us another yr of warranty. But we asked to have it replaceded with an identical van as it had only been 21days they eventually agreed!

I should have mentioned that the MB Code for Mars Red and Fire Opal is 590 - if the code detailed on your documents is different then it may well NOT be the colour causing so much concern.

Mercedes have been on the phone to me today, they have offered to exchange the car but will only offer me 13,500 for my car. Therefore taking my repayments to 317£ a month from £228. The car I bought was £17,000. The new one is just under £18,000. The term is over 4 years. Should Mercedes be giving me back what I bought the car for? Seems unfair to lose so much in 6 months through no fault of my own.

I would expect the full amount back, minus a reasonable per mileage charge for the miles covered. (But that's my expectation, not a rule).

The first E class 220 a mg coupe I bought 6months old developed a gearbox problem after two weeks, took I back to my local MB dealer, not the one I bought it from, they could find no problem. Told them I would be driving to Croatia and on through Italy, France to Southern Spain, they said not a problem, they were wrong. In Spain I took it to a local MB dealer he had it for four days, said it was the g/box software and reset everything , it was fine for three weeks, until I was on the motorway coming home.
Back home took it back to Tonbridge where I bought it, they kept it a week, drove it every day and serviced it, could find nothing wrong. Had it home for a week, and the problem returned.
By now I'm really peed off,. Back to Tonbridge, told him I wanted to exchange the car, he said but its now 3 months old and you've put 6500 miles on it, after a lot of argument I stuck it out, got back what I'd paid, and bought from them a newer 220 E amg coupe with 19 inch wheels and a pan am roof, it was £2000 more than my original, so I paid them that, and they gave me back the £260 I'd just paid for its first service, I've since traded that and bought an E 350 9g coupe, and am at the moment back in Spain with it.
Sorry to make it such a long tale, but the moral is don't take no for an answer you told them of problems right from the start, and the car has not been right since you bought it, have a note of the dates and times they've had it back and don't be, fobbed off with petty excuses, be polite but firm in what you want, and good luck :thumb:

I will be holding my guns on this one. Why should I be financially at loss because the product they supplied me is not up to scratch. I have complained to Mercedes Benz finance who are getting in contact with the dealer. The dealer was trying to make me agree by saying we will need to get rid of the car to trade so we won't make much on it etc.

The issues on the car were not a fault of mine, so I don't see why I should be penalised.

It's been a nightmare buying and owning this car!

Mercedes ended up giving me 14,500 for the car which is about 1600 less than I paid for it due to the milage I had done etc. I agreed and have gone into a 13 plate palladium silver c coupe sport plus. I have some issues with the new car already that are getting looked at next week. Mainly the eco function not working properly, headlights steaming again, seat belt tensioner is very weak and doesn't even pull.the seat belt back much. Also I've had to have the wipers replaced by a different dealer due to the ones in the car smearing the screen in bad rain on the motorway.

Moving on from this, I've just noticed that the old car with all tge problems is up for sale at the same dealership I got it from for.17,000. Basically the dealer has made money from my downfall with this car. Even though they said it wouldn't be sold on from there and that they have sold the car on to a third party that the group deals with.

Do I have grounds to complain? The car is up for more money now that I paid for it 6 months ago.

They may have spent some of their own money on fixing the various issues... plus the member of their staff selling it will expect his sales commission... and ultimately the new buyer might negotiate down the price.

If they gave you a fair deal at the time, then why should you care how they now dispose of the car?

You have done the deal. Nothing to do with you what they do with the car. You don't know what they spent on it.. What other prep that have had to do.. Add in normal costs such as warranty, servicing and margin VAT.... They aren't making anywhere near what you think they are....

The fact is how they took the car off me stating that the car would be given to trade hence why I wouldnt be offered more money and I felt like that was the end of what I could get from them.

The car couldn't have asked the paint work issues repaired in 24 hours as that how long it's been.

Best to leave it. You negotiated a price with the dealer and traded the car in and it's now their property and can do what they would like with it. Also, running a dealership isn't cheap and adding all the costs of the previous repairs they carried out - doubt they're making any profit, not that that's anything to do with you anymore as its not your problem.

Forget about this car and enjoy your new car instead :)

Hi Ajay. i think i may of brought the car that you have returned. and i have had the same issue regading the paint work. mercades in bradford have been very unproffessional. can you get in touch with me please.
