Car
GLE, AMG Line
I a couple of weeks my car is going for an 'A' service, year 5 so ATF is included.
Price is about 960 at a London MB outlet, plus 30 quid for collection.

I have a service plan and paid 30 quid last year.

All London MB outlets are owned by MB I think and all have the same service price/etc.

Would I be wasting my time to get them to remove the 30 quid or offer it to another garage?

Lakeside MB is an independent, their price for the service is about 100 quid lower but collection is 50 quid. Yes I have a service plan
but I thought saving 30 quid is 30 quid when my income is sub 80 quid a week. (NB> I'm not asking for violins, lol.)

All views/experiences appreciated and I'm not really a fan of Dartford but they are my main dealers and have been since 2004.

AMGeed, my apologies. I should have said that I'm avoiding enclosed spaces, etc because of Covid. I was all a fan of taking the car down and waiting pre-covid. Thanks for the post.

Hi , Understandable

I thought just that. For a non AMG too. I think I’d be searching for a decent indie. 😳
My dad has a GLE500e of that age but slightly higher milage and he was quoted £1100 by MB. They are also not doing the spark plugs because they were missed in the previous cycle (although i think they serviced it)

£960?

I'm glad I'm sat down now!

I read his post to say that this is what the service would have cost had he not serviced it under Service Care Plan?

MSG2004 . Please forgive me if I am being a little forward here but are you saying your income is less than £80 a week and you own a car ? No violins .

You are correct. I bought the service plan last year, ie for year 4 so it as a B service, this year an A service plus atf, then 3rd, year 6 service another B.
The first three years I paid per service as i thoguht I'd change my car at year 4 or just before but left work in 2017

yep - about 80 quid a week is my pension atm, my OH gets about the same we both left work in early 2017. The car was as always purchased for cash - but as i said, no violins please as we do have savings and will cash in another couple of pensions next year as savings run low.
I have been tempted to cut our motoring costs by buying a used ford focus/etc, but not easy to change from a MB as been mb man since 2004 and my dad had one from 1970 .

btw, the interest on our savings is less than peanuts and as we dont work, can't afford to gamble in the stock market.

Riva811 - MB have always been more expensive to service and not sure how they can justyfiy what is basically an oil and filter change for lower mileage cars and charge around the 300 quid in london/ Yep, you do get their breakdown cover but you can get similar ones for about 40 quid i think if you shop around and not go with the rac or aa.

Take the car yourself, and go for an hours or so walk around the area. Try very hard not to buy another car whilst browsing outside stock.

That service with ATF at an MB specialist Indy is about £400-450 max

What other if any extras are included within that service?

If the A service and ATF is included in your device plan, then all you have to pay extra is £30 ?
I would just pay the £30 for someone to collect and return my car. You could be waiting hours for the service to be completed, I waited nearly all day once, other than that get a friend or relative to follow you and take you back home, same again when it's all done.
If someone offered you £30 to drive to London and hang around for 2 plus hours you would probably say no.
When the service plan comes to an end get a good indie to service it next time.

I have an "A" service booked next week and I also queried the £30 collection and delivery charge and was told that it is at the descretion of the branch to drop this charge. Unfortunately it is near impossible to contact the branch on the phone without being diverted to the main Mercedes Servicing switchboard.:(

I agree but the OP’er is retired so if he’s nowt else to do it’s £30 in his pocket. As said, take it yourself. Ask for a ‘while you wait slot’ and have a nosey around the forecourt and surrounding area.

The Service Care Plan vs Indie is a separate discussion... if you compare the Indie cost to the fixed price of the Service Care Plan, then on basic services the Indie will be cheaper, and on the big services the Service Care Plan will be cheaper, so it really depends on what is due in the next 2-3 services. And Mobilo also adds a few quids to the equation.

However, if Covid is still with us when the Service Care Plan runs out, than the Indie might not be an option for the OP because very few offer collection service.
