300ce seat locking problem

Hi there. My 1988 300ce has just failed it's MOT due to the front seats not locking in the upright position. What would be the cause of this and how is it remedied?

Was the door open when tested? I think it only locks if the door is closed. Might even need the engine to be running - cant remember. Try a search because I am sure this comes up pretty frequently when tested by people unused to the peculiarities of the old mercs.

+1 for GP's post - it explains the set up in the handbook (if you have it) - it might be worth taking that down to your MOT place.

Yes - proceedure is to have engine running and doors shut AND leave window open so that tester can put his hand inside to test seat back is locked.

I always leave a note inside car for tester.
