Just want to change the auto tranny oil on my 300TE S6 12V - have ordered the original MERC tranny filter and sump gasket but need advice whether to resort to original MERC tranny oil or alternative from Auto shops will do? What is the correct oil spec and how much will be required? I understand I will have to drain the Torque Converter as well.

w124'S just use normal ATF dexron II..

yes ensure you train the TC, you wll have to turn it with a lever to get the hole to line up with the hole in the bell housing.

More comes out of the TC than the box itself so its important.

Easy job, just dont overtightent the sump nuts, they are only pinched tights, official figure is 8nm so not a lot... otherwise you will split the seal.

Try Opie oils http://www.opieoils.co.uk/ You could use either Dexron 2 or Dexron 3 FUCHS were a factory fill on the older models. Best way to judge how much fluid to use (assuming the gearbox was correctly filled before draining) is to measure how much you drain off--that way you allow for any left in the system.
