Hi All,

Went to start the car this morning and it fired into life for a few seconds and then cut out. Now it wont start at all. there is fuel to the injectors as I have cracked off one of the pipes and fuel was pressured and sprayed out.
I had the same yesterday but after a couple of tries it kicked into life and was fine all day.

Any ideas what it could/might be ???

Could it be the CPS, if so where abouts are they located ??

yes, that goes through it's normal routine.

A mate said that it could be the fuel pump not giving enough pressure to the injectors.

It sounds like one of your injectors is leaking off too much. I doubt it will be the CPS.

Needs to get tested really

You may be right - after re-reading your first post you say you cracked open one of the fuel lines to test for pressure. If it was at the injector end of things, you may have been lucky not to have lost fingers, etc, as the pressure on the fuel rail is up in the 1000's of PSI...!!!

Releasing that kind of pressure would have been pretty dangerous, IMO, so if there was some pressure, but not as much as I have been going on about, then yes, low pressure may be the problem.

Is there any way of checking this at home, or is it injectors out job ?

spoken to dealer and they are willing to get it on diagnostics monday morning.
Did ring Mobilo to try and wing it, but didn't work - they want £184.12 to come out and see if they can diagnos the problem (parts on top) but will include recovery to dealer if they can't fix it. But then I do have full breakdown/recovery with Greenflag (via the Caravan Club)

The one in Stafford charge £70/hr - which is the same as what the dealer charges me.
There's one in Stoke on Trent (MERX) but can't get hold of them.

Also due to go on holiday, to Devon in the caravan, from the 15th of this month.

Just been out to it and had another try, as had drained battery down earlier so had to put charger on.

With foot to the floor on pedal and holding key it fired into life :bannana: so left it running for a bit. switched off and tried to restart normally - no joy :(, so tried foot to the floor again and it started after an extended crank on the starter.

So could this be an injector leak off issue ? and with the engine running can this be checked and how ?

That sound juat like either a leak off problem or air in the fuel lines. Give it a strong dose of diesel cleaner in the tank and go for a 30 mile drive.

That is classic injector leak fault you describe,

With engine cover removed, remove leak off pipes from all injectors & clamp pipe behind rearmost injector, get someone to turn over on key & observe leakage from injectors, anything more than the smallest dribble is the faulty 1.
If no one injector seams worse than any other remove fuel pressure regulator from rear of fuel rail & check seals (must be perfect) new seals are available in a kit from merc for only a few quid.

hope that helps

That method is a little messy without the test kit but it will tell you what one is faulty.

Done this and there is very little fuel coming out of any of the injectors. But it did fire into life before the system stopped cranking. Even then there was only a minute amount coming from the top of the injectors, but they seemed to be bubbling very slightly. there wasn't any one of them leaking more fuel than the others.

Put everything back together and now the engine will start but more towards the end of the starting cycle than at the beginning, and this is each time i start it.

One thing I did notice when the engine was running that the fuel pipe from filter to pump (at filter end and no black outer there) seemed to show signs of air - not sure though but you could see fuel flowing but disturbed - if you know what i mean.
When switched off there were a couple of air bubbles that appeared at the same place, but we'll only talking a couple of small ones and there was still signs of fuel there.

Is there anyway to measure the pressure from the electric fuel pump up to the high pressure pump, td5 tank pump used to be 4 bar give or take a bit.

Is there a fuel cooler in the feed line? ie something that could rub through.

Just looking at the russian site and item 50 and 150 caught my eye with the words intergrated fuel filter, i had bother twice with my td5 fuel pump and that was the fine filter on the bottom of the pump blocking up ran fine with a full tank approx 1/2 tank started to show signs of fuel starvation.

Ps i looked up 211 320cdi guessing right car? dont know if 210 had the v6.

Well it's been running perfectly fine all day, starting near on instantly each time. Been parked up at home for the past 5 hours and needed to move it - started first time as it's been doing all day :D

Will see if it plays up in the morning after sitting there all night.

Don't think it's fuel starvation as the tank had about a 1/3rd in and once got it started it's been fine all day.
BTW the 210 has the straight 6 engine.
The pumps on the 210 are situated at the front of the engine Êàòàëîã

Have you got the screw type filter? (plastic)
Black plastic housing that sits on the passenger sid of the fuel rail, as per this pic

Filter was changed about a month back and has been fine up until now.
