Sorry for the newbie obvious questions, but im a BMW man and no little about Benz finest.

The 350 engine, Is it chain driven? How often does this chain need replacing or tightening?

Virtually all MB engines have chain/gear driven timing gear including the diesels. The old single chain engines used to need replacing at 70-80K but the twin duplex systems should last 150k plus. It seems to be wear/maladustment in the timing chain tensioners ( should be automatic normally) or guides that takes them out rather than the chains/gears themselves. This assumes proper oil changes and adhering to sensible rev limits of course.;)
