Hi all,

OK, have asked this question before but that was a while ago and maybe just maybe there will be new electronic equipment about on the market.

I have a 1996 C230K and the Fault code reader connection is the old dreaded round 38pin socket.

I have seen this for sale on Amazon

MERCEDES BENZ 38 PIN TO 16 PIN OBD2 OBD 2 ADAPTOR: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

All very well having this but what can I plug into it on the other end?

I also own a laptop but only has USB it does not have the old parallel port or also known as printer port.

So, the question is, any affordable code readers out there?

or

Cables and software for a USB laptop?

Any help is always appreciated.:thumb:

BigD.

Just found this reader, any thoughts?

I have one of these and have found it v. useful. I believe it has paid for itself many time over already (although I live miles from a specialist). Same shop will sell you a round converter.

Firstly the convertor lead will work. I bought the same one from Amazon and it works on mine. Its a different story with the readers they list though. I bought a U480 scan tool which was supposed to work but on connecting it to the car it would only display LINK ERROR. This was the same story with my sons Alfa Romeo. So it promptly got returned and I found the RAC one which they sell in Argos for £69 connects and can read the codes with no issues.
