Mercedes E250 cab 2013
Having fitted a New Illuminated Mercedes Star to the front Grill, I need to connect it to the day time running lights.... but I'm damned if can access either left or right ... any help please?

Is it aftermarket?? The OEM accessory illuminated star doesn't connect to the DRLs, as that way it would be on when you are driving or is that the look you are going for??
The OEM version connects to the rear SAM unit.

I saw one of these lit up things coming down the road once, I needed a window wiper on the inside of the windscreen to wipe all the sick away. :p

Thats the look I'm going for ... just need an easy wiring point ..

Are these things as tasteless as they sound ? I have yet to see one, so I will reserve final judgment until I do.

Who knows I might like it so much I will be straight on Fleabay. ;)

Merc original is 85 Quid plus...got mine from China on Ebay, 35 Quid free post..exately the same !!

The OEM ones are about £300 IIRC, as they come complete with the wiring harness and a the necessary hardware to connect it to the SAM unit.
They are not designed to remain on at all times, but just to illuminate when the car is armed/disarmed with the rest of the lights which function at that time.
You may want to try and search on the US MB sites as I believe people have carried out what you are trying to achieve. HTH

The Merc 85 Quid Quote is for the standard badge (Emblem) only... the one I bought was 33.50, comes with harness... block connector...extension cable to splice to 2x cables to either DRL..... but im damed if I can accsess the rear of either

So all of this just to light up the bonnet star when the car is locked/unlocked because having it lit while driving at night would be illegal...right ?

Seems like an odd thing to spec when new from MB , especially at £300 as quoted on here.

"Nowt so queer as folk..."

If it were illegal....Merc woundn't offer it ...Surely..??

Couldn't you just take the feed from the blue windscreen washer lights?

Mercedes DON'T offer the illuminated star to be installed in the way you are trying to install it!
Whether or not your final installation contravenes the RTA regs I do not know.

Does Barry drive a Mercedes now?:D

It's surely ... another Day time driving lamp... begining to wish I haden't started this....

It's tacky, not to mention gaudy. Driving down the road with the Merc logo lit up? Class only works when it's subtle.

The concerns over legality is because it'd be distracting to other drivers, certainly not another DRL.

Sorry, I hope you find your answer, and are happy with the result, but while I'm sure there's loads out there that think it looks the mutts nuts, there's a load more who'll share a different view.

:dk:

All MB's will break the UK speed limit. They offer that option, and that's illegal. Sorry to be such a Pedant but I understand this trinket (when fitted by MB) only illuminates when locking/unlocking the car.

I am sure someone on here knows.

Its incredible that we are discussing this when many genuine queries about 'real' technical issues go unanswered on this forum.

My 2 cents worth on this goes like this. Someone wants to wire a lit up logo on THEIR car in a certain way. OP wants to know if anyone can advise how this can wired up to the DRLs, not is it legal or how you think it looks. In my opinion it is something I will not be doing to my car, but if that is what the OP wants, then go for it.
I am sorry but I cannot answer your original question as I am not very minded with wires. Work in IT you see haha. Hope someone can point you in the right direction about this.
