Hi

I had my mercedes E300 TD ELEGANCE in for " 4 wheel alignment" today and i am utterly disguted be the mount of cowboys in this trader! Every one ive used seemed to have no CLUE

The car went to a merc aprroved bodyshop to have this done

Firstly the guy at the front desk told me that it was callled Geomentry, where as the guy who done it said it was 4 wheel alignment and that geomentry was just another word for it.

Secondly
It took them about 2 and a half hours to do the job, when i returned to pick up the car, they said it was all done and it was a fair bit out.

As soon as i drove the car i noticed that there was not much improvement and the car still pulled to left and occasinoally to right? ( never pulled to the right before)

I looked the at the reading print out which they gave me, the first thing i noticed that my vecihle details were incorrect!
They had listed my car as a " 300E SPORT 11.88- 1988 1993"

I gave the garage aring and told them this and the guy on the phone said "thats not problem as all the wheels have now been corrected and are now straight, i doesnt make a differnce what vehicle details are written on the page"

I told him that im not happy at all and the car is driving worst then before! they told be to bring it down and they will have a look at it again.

This is the print out he gave me

looks like im going to have to scan the print out the add this

Only one place to go if you want this done properly is "Wheels in Motion in Chesham"

I live 160 miles away from them but would never ever let any one else touch the geometry of my cars, they do it right, the first time , every time. Money well spent and well worth the 320 miles round trip.

I have used wheels in motion and elite tyres essex both very good, both cars much better after the job done.

Wheels in motion is a member on here may be worth pming him.

W-IM also have their own forum if you need help - Tony is very quick to respond.

I am very sensitive to handling issues myself.

When I had a W210, my perfect handling was a result of:

1. Check wishbone bushes for play - ideally replace with Meyle HD parts.

2. Check for play in the wheel bearings - these normally just need nipping/tightening up.

3. Check steering ball joints for play - ideally replace with Meyle HD parts.

4. Have steering alignment checked - ideally Elite Direct or Wheels in Motion.

Do let us know how you get on...

I just wanted to ask how I would go about posting photos of my SLK on here.
Any advice would be much apreciated.

Thanks.:)

Yup....get yourself to Wheels in Motion in Chesham....not a million miles from you....they sorted my C270 out for me when others failed.

I use a company in the Bristol area called Pro Tyre and have watched them carry out this procedure. If they feed in the incorrect car details at the beginning, they will adjust or attempt toadjust your suspension incorrectly. I had an E Class Avantgard, they loaded up the info mfor an Elegance, the readings were way out which fortunately rang alarm bells with the operator. He quickly changed the car details and all was ok.

The cross camber and castor are wrong and will make the car pull intermittently left and right depending which wheel is off the bump.

I would have then do it again with the correct data this time.
