Had to do a round trip from Dundee->Glasgow->Edinburgh and then back to Dundee the other day and managed a collossal 45mpg!

Never managed to get it that high before and was just wondering if anybody else manages to get this normally. It was a Friday and leaving Edinburgh at around 2pm i did get stuck in a little bit of traffic but apart from that it was 70mph on all motorway bits except the A9 heading to Glasgow where there is a huge 40mph average speed camera zone due to road works so there was very little town driving.

Started the journey around 10am and was back in Dundee for 5.30pm after an hours stop for lunch etc.

Was rather chuffed to say the least when i looked at the mpg and even happier when it was less than a quarter tank for the whole trip.

What sort of figures does everybody else get?

OK it's a diesel so not directly comparable ... Trip was M4/M25/M26/M20/M2 early one sunny morning a couple of years back :D

i normally get 47-48mpg on shorter journeys up to 30 miles, longer journey i hit 50s best done is 53.4mpg

I have the same and a journey I do every now and then, Lincoln to Glasgow, gets me between 42 and 46 mpg. Same type of driving really, 70 as much as possible and the average speed cameras up and down the a1 help to bring it down a little!

Compared to the normal 24-28mpg that i normally get driving to/from work its brilliant. I do about a 5 mile run into work in the morning right in the centre of dundee and again at 5pm so im right in the middle of peak rush hour and in the heart of the city centre so i suppose 24 isnt shocking considering alot of the time is spent sitting in traffic lol.

TBH I am on here because I bought a C180 as a motorway miler and i thought i might need help if it all went wrong. I've attacked the rust, put wax oil in the wheel arches. Changed the auxilary belt and dropped the oil. Last month after 5000 miles the pad warning light came on so i got some more of those too.

All in all, faultless car. More than had my money out of it already. If i could fix the sunroof i'd be proper laughing! Averages about 40mph and sits in traffic a bit. Not bad for a 17 year old auto with a small engine that wasn't really built with economy in mind, not like today's cars are anyway.

Most impressed!

I'm off to France for a couple of weeks at the beginning of September. If I can achieve 45mpg out of my 180, I shall be well pleased. At the moment I am getting 33 mpg on short trips of about 25 miles.

Somehow we managed 42-45mpg on our trip down to morrocco... still don't know how! On a W202, C180..
bloody hell thats fantastic.... im lucky to get late 20's in my W202 C200... I dont think i have ever got more than 320 miles out of a full tank of motorway driin at approx 80mph :s

CLK200 kompressor regular trips at 40mpg but I tend to not go over the limits on my daily work run hence 50-65 most of the way. 22 miles round trip per day.

Thats great milage , the best I can get in the 211 200k is 32mpg , that was going to Cork last week and travling at around 75 mph .
I usually only get 28 on short trips .

220 cdi, never get less than 50mpg on the tank, 63-65 on a motorway run

obviously being a diesel helps

a p reg?

i remember once not filling up.. it was 2 months that i could get about 40mpg out of it...

A few years back , I took my automatic 190E from sunny Ayrshire over to West Lothian , then down to Cardiff , returning laden with three Ponton doors where the back seat should have been and a fourth on the roof rack , driving at the legal speed limit most of the way there and back . The car returned 43mpg over approx 1100 miles .

i normally get between 24-29mpg round town and got 41.6 on the motorway once in my W203 C180 Coupe. I wish it was better round town a that's where i do most of my journeys.

not many cars are good around town.. i know of one sure fire way to get better mpg...........ignore it.

Yes,I can concur with this - 48.3mpg to Harrogate - once got in the mid 50's - but rare - wind to your back, warm weather that increase efficiency of turbo, etc. Short journeys :( are terrible - you can be looking at 18-28mpg - keeping a regular check on tyre pressures, regular servicing,a good (non-supermarket fuel) and not carrying un-necessary junk in the car all helps.
