I'm looking for advice, abut 10 minutes ago a 4x4 drove int my fence, taking the iron fence out, they've smashed their lights and left their bumper...

But they've driven off!!

I'm sure they noticed this....

I don't know what to do? r what I can do?

I've taken photos of the scene, but can I call th police?

I'm fuming.

Ring the police ... Now ! while they are still in the area ...

Should be too hard to track down a ******coloured 4x4 that is missing a bumper and it's lights ...

I personally would definitely call the Police. I would also try to preserve any tyre tread marks and collect up any debris (in case the offender comes back and removes it :o )

Good luck
John

I've got the debris, it's stored away safety :)

Ok, but I doubt what the police can do

They can ask the local patrols to be on the lookout for a 4x4 missing its front ....

The guy has caused criminal damage to your fence and left .....

Hi Hanzz,
We all like to knock the Police but have faith you might just be lucky. First off the driver of this vehicle is not the most honest person on the block! This vehicle might have been used in crime and the Police might have details? Are you anywhere near CCTV coverage? Again some members moan about big brother, but only the guilty need worry. If you are near a CCTC camera then hopefully this car will be recorded in its damaged state?

How do you know it was a 4 x 4? The debris will help discover what it is, paint, plastic bits etc. Spoil the officer when they come round and hopefully they will spoil you :)

Good luck getting everything sorted and if all else fails then contact your own house insurer.

Bye for now
John the arguer ;)

Do you know what 4x4 it was? take a pic of the bits, we could have a guessing game...:)

As the other guys said call the police anyway, you never know...

I'll update you later! :(

All the best. hope it works out, hannah.

BTW when you say the bumper came off... the number plate wasn't attached, was it? :D

Not many Insurers cover fence damage???:(

A very fair point, we pay an extra £5 per year for cover for all our garden fencing, sheds etc and I'm guilty of assuming most folks might consider doing the same. Many apologies but would they contact the car insurance pool that sometimes pays out third parties in uninsured claims?

Hey all,

Thanks for all your advice.

I phoned the police, they told me to go down to the station as there wasn't much they could do over the phone. They told me I'd have to do a statement.

So I went down the main station (bumper parts and all), basically they told me there was nothing they could do. Took my details and that's it.

I'm not very happy, but I wasn't expecting them to do that much..

So now I don't have much of a fence and both ends of a disco bumper and headlight :(

If you see a bumperless discovery out there........

The chances are that if they can't be bothered to stop to mend a fence and collect the damaged parts, that it's probably stolen, not taxed, not insured, and possibly not even driven by a licensed driver.

I'd say you've got about zero chance of getting any recompense.

I'd also seriously consider locking those parts up very securely, as they might come back for them.

 No wonder the Police are getting a bad name. There is always a possibility that there might be nothing they could co, but to give up without even trying speaks volumes about those folks you spoke to.

Crime down, Police numbers up yet, "Sorry there is nothing we can do!"

I'm a good kid lying in my bed, but I would love to at least make an attempt to catch this criminal. It might cost you a bit of time, but I would pay a visit to at least the local body repair shops, parts dealers and scrap yards to tell them your story and very politely ask them to let you know if they have someone with a Discovery making enquiries about bits and repairs. Contact the local newspaper and try to get them interested in the incident

Grrr I'm getting angry for you

Good luck with whatever you decide and :p :p :p :p to your local Police. Thank goodness you were not hurt.

Regards,
John the angry

also, put the pieces back where they were left and get the local paper/tv to come and photograph/film the damage etc and report it - you never know they might print/air it and get someone to come forward.

You dont ask - you dont get . . .

good luck.

No surprise there...!
