my 1985 model apparently has LSD..... according to the previous owner and the gumph on the original bill of sale from the SL specialist he purchased it from. any ideas how you would check visually or otherwise?

They normally have a tag on em with SP (i think, something like that, its the initials of the german word) written on it, if the back of the car is jacked up and you turn one wheel on a plate type LSD, the other one should go the same way rather than the opposite way.

As far as i'm aware although i'm no expert i've just been hunting for info to help me locate one, all the 500 SLC's should have LSD, i stand to be corrected though.

If I had the space to put that car and work on it I'd put a bid in for it she looks very nice.

The build sheet for my 107, shows LSD as an option.

I dunno about SL's i was told all SLC500's have them though.

Jack one wheel up, start the engine, rev it up and drop into gear. If the car shoots off the jack it has an LSD.....;) :D

thanks. i've got the car on the jack now. is it safe enough to do this in my garage ? i'll be ready to brake as soon as i feel the car move. is 3000rpm enough or should i give it more?

Probably safer to red-line it ;)

And make sure it's pointed at the back of the garage, not the door, so the wall will catch it if you're a little slow on the brake :D

hi guys.

bad news. it all went horribly wrong. it did jump off the jack but i was too late on the brakes and hit the wall.

my car just before i attempted this:
