My C55 is in the bodyshop having a new front bumper fitted - I hit a pigeon a week or so ago - nightmare.........

Anyway, I was delighted to discover that my courtesy car for the 8 day repair job is a baby blue Vauxhall Corsa 1.2. It has air so when I switch that on it will be a .9...

So the capacity difference is 4.3 litres.... anyone want to suggest how to get the best out of 1.2 litres??

If anyone has a rental suggestion to replace the Corsa to get me nearer to the C55, suggest away. I do about 200 miles a week and am happy to pay...

Rental places mostly have shopping trolleys. The best mainstream rental cars:

Budget 520d
Enterprise E220cdi
BMW themselves hire out cars also.
Avis, various C classes, Passats etc.

Just lump it in the corsa, will make you appreciate the C55 all the more.

Mediocrity makes you appreciate quality.

Welcome to my mediocre life.

True, but given the difference in dynamics (my wife drove it today and even she said it was horrendous) I would probably kill myself within a couple of miles of driving the C55 when I eventually get it back...

Hire a biggish car, a Mondeo/Passat or something similar won't kill you for a week. May not the be the last word in performance but safety/solidity/comfort will be fine for a week.

yeah - good point... I'll see what I can find. Will also ask my local friendly MB dealer for a *63. He can only say no - right???

A while back , we went to Devon in the other halfs Ka ... thought it would be a change , and give the merc a rest .... the Ka only does town stuff so it would give it a chance to stretch its legs.

Never again .... i went to overtake someone on a downhill stretch of the dual carriageway , and didn't manage it before the bottom ...

On the way up on the other side , the Ka just ran out of go and we had to pull in behind the chap , how he laughed ...

Never again .... :o

thanks for the suggestions but I'm not in the Ferrari or Lambo league yet... But the way business is going right now, give me 12 months and I'll be ready:bannana:

Just had an offer of an Audi S4 from my local Audi dealer (OK - i was economical with the truth as to why I wanted it........). Might give that a try.

Oooh you're lucky. I'm currently in a Daewoo/Chevrolet Matiz 1.0, bodyshop courtesy car!

or a Chevrolet.... (except the obvious ones....)

Is it an insurance job? If so, just reject the little car and ask for like-for-like.

When my Range Rover LSE was damaged about 5 years ago, my insurance tried to palm me off with a rollerskate from the bodyshop. I said no, I want a like-for-like car: my wheels of choice was a large 4x4 so why would I accept something smaller, plus I was paying big motor insurance so why would I accept a small car from them?

In the end I got a brand new Disco out of them (and for 12 weeks too, the RR took forever to be repaired, not least because I rejected the repair twice).

Well, if the pigeon I hit had an insurance policy I could claim off, then I would do exactly what you suggest, but.....

So I am relying on the goodwill of the bodyshop who (no fault or criticism of them) will only ever offer a basic courtesy car.

I am happy to pay for a rental while my car is in the bodyshop - just keeping my options open!!!!!

Buy a 190E for less than it would cost to hire some piece of junk . You'll end up with a smile on your face and a car that you can leave parked at the supermarket without worrying about getting it 'dinged' .

Always handy to have a spare car as a 'runabout' .
