500E Spotted On Pistonheads!!

That's nice and it's the right colour too. These are really starting to grow on me, and they are hardly likely to drop any value if well kept. I absolutely love the Q car look of these, very much like the original M5 too.

That looks very nice and well cared for.

£11k you will not lose much on that..

like the "Economy mode" on the box (I know they probably all have this makes you smile on a 5Ltr...

Nice plate also.

All 500E/E500's were left hand drive and were never available in Right Hand Drive.

I get more drawn to these everytime i see one... but they just dont have that something about them like the SEC's... still i think if it was RHD i would be tempted..

hmm ive never thought it was possible... only maybe if someone messed about and put in different steering gear..

So whats involved in taking the furniture out of a right hooker and transplanting it to a standard e500?

my first guess is the steering box will hit something but all things are possible right with enough know how?

a guy in the states converted an SEC to rack and pinion, with this setup it MAY be possible but still a big ?? as there are several obstacles with the manifolds, mounts etc...

I know Ian B. Walker mentioned that a few cars were made that were super rare and were RHD. I dunno where you'd get one, I think they are collectors items and are sitting in very exclusive car collections.

I genuinely thought they couldn't be made RHD due to the pedal box and other ancillaries simply not being able to fit. Or at least it being such a nuisance it wasn't worth the hassle.

Page 37 of the Nov 2007 issue of that estimable bible, Merc Enthusiast states the W124 Hammer which was built between '85 & '89 with the M117 engine was "a rare and expensive sight. It is reckoned that just two right-hand drive cars were brought to the UK"

...so it must be true...:)

I think I am right in saying that only 17 RHD Hammers were ever built. Two to UK (Vlad had one, the other written off I think) I am also led to believe that the remainder went to the USA (investment?).
