55 AMG miles per gallon (boring)

I know mine's a Kompressor but in the two years I've had it I've never seen more than 25 on a run and that was with me really trying (I was curious to see how high I could get it). It bored me to death though so I doubt I'll see it again in a hurry.
High teens to low 20s is normal.

One mad dash from Portsmouth to Guildford saw 11.3, that was a fun day!

Just got back from holiday, left one of the E55s at long stay Gatwick for a week.

After a brisk 70 mile round trip including some waiting around with the engine idling (was -4c last night!) it's cost me just over £10 in fuel. Can't argue with that.

49.9p a litre (LPG) helps! :)

I work that out as just over 30mpg equivalent - not driven with any concern for fuel economy. I reckon 35-40mpg would be easy enough if you drove sensible enough on a longer journey, working on a petrol cost at £1/litre :D

You guys are lucky with your 55's!

My W208 CLK55 averaged 24.5mpg, my current C32 is averaging 22.3 on the same journey!

Your 55s and 63s are great, they'll pass anything on the road, except filling stations, the good news is, fuel may well drop some more to as little as 86p a litre. Think I'll stick with diesel for a while yet.

I had been wondering about real MPG! Though I am not sure if I qualify to contribute, not having a real AMG. I have an E500 and I get 17-32 mpg depending on how and where I drive. Average over 5000 miles is 26mpg.

I can get 34mpg at 70mph, that gets ruined once I hit the liverpool city traffic at 12-15mpg.

Since the thread was revived, I can mention my miraculous efficiency achieved in SLK55 last winter in Europe.

27 and 29mpg is M25-Dover runs on both ends of the trip.
34mpg is driving in Poland during snowfall and on icy roads
38mpg is Hanover to Folkestone in bad weather.

I didn't know it's even possible to achieve such high numbers. I don't have to tell you how boring it was. And BTW, SLK55 is not that good on snow even on winter tyres. My previous SLK250 was doing a bit better in similar conditions.

And that's how the car looked after one of the trips:

New to me last week - 2012 E500 4.7 BiTurbo Cabrio ….

Picked it up in London - drove across town - first 15 miles averaged about 15mpg. Once I got outa town, hit the motorway back to Cheshire steady at ‘about’ the motorway limit and then about 15 miles of A road fun - total average 31.7mpg on 193 miles. I was pretty impressed.

Since then I have done a 240 mile round trip mostly motorway at 33.4mpg and a 100 mile trip including 20 miles of city driving at 29mpg.

Today …50 odd miles but lots of short 5 - 10 mile journeys - average 21mpg.

I’m pretty impressed with that.

I sold my Cls350d Shooting Break a few weeks ago and bought the E500 for cash, & and a new 1.2 litre VW Polo on PCP to replace it. I’m working on the basis that my 55mpg Polo is my carbon offset car.:D

Bought my ML55 2 months ago, 3500 miles later 18mpg, half of that towing, but at 55pence per litre LPG I cant stop grinning:thumb:

Got my CLS55 last week.

12-14 around town
16-18 mixed
24 motorway

Will increase slightly as still foot down everywhere xD

Have to say, I mis-read the thread title as someone claiming, or aiming for, 55 mpg from their AMG. Ha, as if :-o
Took a few moments to realise it was about the AMG model, not an unobtainable target.

btw, couple of weeks in my C63 and it is generally 17/18 mpg on daily run (no open roads) and 21 mpg on a couple of 60-mile round trips including gentle motorway driving. I know I will be getting those numbers a lot lower when I get a chance to open it up and enjoy it properly :D
