I've owned this car for over a year, and had noticed that the service due/overdue indicator on the dash had been advancing in two day increments instead of one. But I've just noticed, having done a 7 mile journey in 14 minutes, that the car says I've done 14 miles in 28 minutes! Obviously this is a problem, but more importantly, does this mean that the car thinks I've done twice the mileage in the last year than I actually have? I'm going to start recording the mileage now to check.
Is this a common/expensive problem? Can the mileage be reset to what the car has actually done? Is this a problem with the computer chip or is it something that can be set when the car is serviced? I had an issue with the people who last worked on the car - is the sort of thing that can be done maliciously?
The last time I posted on here, it was to do with running out of petrol well before the car said it should, could this be related to the same problem?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
