My electronic level check seems to be quite accurate. I did the oil change, including jacking up the front of the car, after it stood level overnight draining, to get the last little dribbles out. The handbook says 8.5 litres are required. I put in 7.5 litres, and on checking the system said one litre was needed. I put another litre in, so actually added the nominal amount. The system is happy.
Measured from the lip of the dipstick tube to the level of the oil in the sump, engine hot and stopped for five minutes, on level ground,
the distance was 61 cm.
Ian, bear in mind I have an E55K, not an SL. What exactly is your engine number? The figures are all the same for the 113.990/992/995 (mine's a 113.990), but yours MIGHT not be the same; best to check.
