Bet it gave you a warm, fuzzy, feeling inside when you stood back and admired itI did this yesterday on a place in Ickenham. First bit of leadwork I’ve done in a while.
What’s his name?Nice! My dad would be impressed. He did some at Hampton Court Palace many years ago (1990’s I think, maybe even 80’s) and always relished lead work. The head gardener gave him a cutting of The Great Vine while he was working there. It’s still growing in their garden!
I’ve had that before. If I had that on my roof, it would be 'borrowed' by some local Caravan Enthustiasts in the early hours.
I’m on HS2 opposite West Ruislip Stn. The lead job was a private.Ickenham, just a stones throw from me in Ruislip!
that looks superb.
Bang tidy that Darrell.View attachment 115495

Yes. Oil it up as soon as it’s finished because the weather is too unreliable.do/did you have to coat it in patination oil?
So it’s the rain rain causes the white staining?Yes. Oil it up as soon as it’s finished because the weather is too unreliable.
Dinny go posting a pic of that. We’ll take your word for it Ronseal Man.I also rub it into my muscular torso.
Exactly. And if you don’t oil it and it then rains it’s a bitch to get the staining out.So it’s the rain rain causes the white staining?
Little bay windows like that are peachy type jobs. When I replaced all the windows and front and back doors in my bungalow I wanted that over the top of two bow windows, could not find anybody to do it and even lowered my sights to fibreglass that looked like lead only to find that the two companies I found and contacted were only interested in big builders who are ordering 400 at a time,so gave up on the idea, does look very nice though well done.
I’ll be honest Darrell. I always do my own leadwork. But: 1) I’m very very slow at it. 2) I’m not very good at it. (Always does the job but not very neat).Exactly. And if you don’t oil it and it then rains it’s a bitch to get the staining out.
A little tip. If you’re doing any kind of lead flashing try to oil under the laps because that can also run and stain when rainwater gets pulled in by capillary action.
It’s not easy.I’ll be honest Darrell. I always do my own leadwork. But: 1) I’m very very slow at it. 2) I’m not very good at it. (Always does the job but not very neat).
It’s defo a really specialised job and hard to get someone (at least around here) who can do it well.
Hats off to you mate . I can do most things building wise to a good standard but leadwork ain’t one of them.
I haven’t. Never needed one for the few wee bits I do. Could have done with one last year when I built a lead safe into a chimney but I just bought a 900x1400 roll and did it in a one-er.It’s not easy.
Have you got a welding set??
