Hi anyone tried the 20 litre tub from Vauxhall it works out at around £50
It's MB229.31

Not sure what brand it actually is.
I normally use the green castrol at around £25 a tub so this works out much cheaper

Not sure how you would know if the oil is good just by trying it... but if it's 229.31 then it should be fine for those engines that have this Spec Sheet specified for them by MB.

As for make... not sure if this helps, but in the past GM oil was rumoured to be made by Fuchs.

We used to use the gm dexos 2 which is perfectly fine and meets 229.3 IIRC

Now we use mercedes oil as it's cheaper

cayman where do you get the merc oil cheaper from?
How much?

MB sheet 229.31 approved oils; LA "low ash" Oils

This is a new spec pioneered by Mercedes for passenger cars with diesel engines with EURO 4 soot particle filters, e.g. W211 E200 CDI, E220 CDI. The spec was introduced 7/2003. They are called LA "low ash" oils, low on sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur to limit particle filter pollution. Oils high in e.g. ZDDP additive can not qualify. 15,000km service life

MB229.51

Introduced 2005 for diesel engines with EURO 4 soot particle filters and longer service life than the 229.31 oils. Change intervals 20,000 kilometers (for comparison only an MB229.5 oil has a specified service life of 30,000km because it has a higher additive content)

Got the 20 litre tub for 45 so happy wity that.
Hopefully can squeeze 3 changes from this.
Will know soon enough how it runs
