60mph limit to be trialled on some motorways

With newer cars emitted less pollution and more and more electric cars on our roads, I'm wondering what the real reason behind this is?

The speed limit will be reduced in Witton, Rotherham, Eccles and Oldbury.

Just read that there are proposals to reduce speed limits on certain sections of Motorway to 60mph to reduce pollution, is this the start of more restrictions on motorists.
