Mercedes Benz Vito 2016 (Taxi)
My parents have E Class (W213?) from new and for a at least 2months the satnav hasn't worked. It thinks car is in Germany.

Tried a factory reset to no avail. Its been serviced every year by mercedes and recently had a letter about an over the air update.

Looked at the settings and was surprised to see it on really old version. Can't remember if it was map version or software or both.

I'm surprised it was never done during services. Obviously car is now over 3 years now. So I'm worried I will not be able to get this sorted without paying a stupid price and secondly I read they should have generated a pin within the 3 years that would have allowed me to update the maps manually. If they never updated the maps I'm assuming they never generated this pin?

Reading a bit more it also appears the GPS module could have failed?

If anyone can help with what the best options are to get these fixed please let me know.

Happy to download maps etc, I do this regularly for my Ford SYNC system.

even with 3 years free updates at service time , the end user has to ask for mb to update the system afaik . some owners simply dont use mb for services and the sat nav ends up being out of date, if the car thinks its in germany , then theres obviously an issue , and updating the maps will probably not be the cure...

the updates are free to download but the pin i think is near £150 .

ps , the over the air update is for the hermes sos tracker system , should the car ever have a crash the emergency services can find you.

The being stuck in Germany problem does mean there is a problem with the GPS. I'd suspect the antenna is the issue. Probably the wiring to the antenna has got damaged or a connector has come loose somehow.

The nav no signal issue looks to be faulty gps antenna, which is located in in driver side of wing mirror. I will probably replace this myself if I can find some pics of which trim needs removing for access.

The other issue about software will have to wait until tomorrow when I can call our local dealer and see whether I can get this pin.

Is there any way to check all the software versions or is it just maps you can do?

cards/usb sticks on ebay including pin code £90 . you could download it yourself from mb and use the pin supplied i suppose , still £90 , good price .

You can check the version via the comand unit.

How do I check the software version too? It has auto updates enabled and no updates available but I don't trust it.

Need to get quote for the GPS repair before I do anything.

Latest maps info here:

The 'no updates available' message probably relates to over-the-air updates which your car won't be entitled to any more as it's older than 3 years now.

The navigation software is part of the COMAND firmware, which can only be updated via STAR (dealer or specialist job). Later cars had the firmware updated over-the-air, but I don't think it applies to 2016 cars.

Car going in on Friday, GPS antenna is only £22 odd plus vat but no confirmation of labour cost.

They said its a quick replacement and they will do it whilst I wait.

Also said they will sort maps out and give me the pin but will see what they do on Friday as not sure the person on the phone fully understood what I was asking for.

Booked with whom?

Local MB dealer

£213 for part + fitting which takes 1.3 chargeable time + £100 for map updates 🙄

Well not cheap but you will get it sorted all at once.
Might just get the part and fit myself

Does anyone the location, its just Fakra connection so assuming it will be either behind the screen or lower down in to a separate module?

I think gps is in the driver side door mirror casing, and to do the job the door card may also need to be removed. Had this done under warranty at the dealers, but others more knowledgeable can confirm if this is correct.

Yep 100% in the wing mirror and door card will need to come off but I can't justify £180ish for labour for what appears to be a common fault.

Hoping I can just do get done on the weekend.
