c32 amg
i have a c32 amg and when i drive it feels like at low rpms the car shifts harshly with a slight bump but sometimes its a little too harsh (sometimes i can tell it should have shifted but didnt, then it shifts correctly with a slight "bump") . one time i was driving while making a turn and all of a sudden the car started revving up with no power to the ground until it finally caught up tried to take off because of the high revs, i took it to the mechanic. on the way to the mechanic it did the same thing but at a much higher speed (like 40 mph) and jerked forward mildly enough (like i tapped the break quarter way) for me to look at my passenger with my eyes completely wide i had to actually pull over and restart the car because it was just revving without the transmission working. i got to the shop and they said my rad was leaking fluid (i know it was but i wanted to do the oil cooler gaskets first and didnt replace it yet) and it was 2.5 quarts low on fluid so they filled my trans up with atf and sent me on my way saying that it was low on fluid and i need a new rad. the "revving" problem didnt occur on the drive home but still was shifting harshly so i called them back and they said if the rad doesnt fix the problem then i need a new conductor plate/solenoids. any advice? anybody think i need a new trans? i have the 2002 c32 amg but they said its not glycol the fluid was looking good

Check there is no oil in transmission harness connector or in Control unit (TCU/EGS). I could be wise to change all oil too. If oil related things are is good it can be conductor plate...

Hi C , and welcome. It is well known that the 722.6 transmission is very robust and reacts well to a complete ATF and filter change , It is installed in many cars and trucks made by various manufacturers , Chrysler Crossfire has a 722.6 installed if I recall. The conductor plates are widely available if needed and the transmission EGS plug is a cheap easy to replace part during a fluid change.

Getting the codes read as mentioned is good advice. No Idea where you are in Texas (big place) but a contributor on here (Alibasa) is in Dallas TX. Let us know how you get on :thumb:

Yes I am in Dallas texas, that’s wild!

This is the guy from Texas you are looking for.

any way you could message him this thread? It won’t let me send messages until I have a minimum of 30 posts and I don’t want to go posting random stuff and get in trouble

The shop that you took it to sounds like they know what they're talking about. Radiators can crack internally and cause ATF to mix with coolant and visa versa so you need to address this before you do anything else because nothing else you do will fix the car if you don't fix this first. The solenoid / conductor plate or common failure points to an otherwise robust transmission. My only other suggestion is to check your battery condition. Low voltage from a weak battery can cause all kinds of problems and given the weather recently turned cold. Your battery could be on its way. Any and every European car specialist in DFW will have a scanner that can read codes on your car (Stuttgart, Marshal Motors, German Auto Works, Arthurs Mercedes). Best of luck.

Okay cool. When I called the shop back about questions with glycol contamination in the transmission it seemed like they almost got mad at me and said “we didn’t say there was anything contaminating the transmission We said you were leaking fluid from the radiator and we need to fix these problems, after the mechanic put fluid in it the transmission shifted properly” even though when I drove it home, with full fluid, it was as jerky as before. my understanding is that if there is any coolant in my transmission it’s toast and they didn’t even want to talk about that. Do I need to start saving up for a new one? The fact that the shop didn’t even want to let me speak about the issue makes me scared. As soon as I brought it up they started speaking over me and telling me not to look online for common problems because I’m lucky I took it to them because they have the best certified Mercedes mechanics, they quote. I just don’t want to do all this piece by piece if I need a new transmission then I will get one but I don’t want to spend 2200$ to figure out I need a new transmission so I’m still not understanding why they are trying to guess In a way instead of maybe a glycol test but they said they didn’t think glycol was in the transmission

The shop doesn't want to spend any time on you second guessing their recommendations. That's reasonable. If you feel like you need to second guess them, just take it somewhere else. It doesn't sound like they're suggesting a rebuild so I suspect that they have a good handle on what the issue is. Nobody wants come backs.

Understandable. Thank you all for the help I will update y’all on the progress
