Hello All.

Had the C32 checked over today by an independent MB specialist.

Generally OK, but a handful of minor issues I'd like to sort as preventative maintenance measures (breathers leaking, wishbones etc).

One of which is a small leak of transmission fluid.

Anyway, this got me thinking I ought to check the transmission fluid level. I completely forgot to ask at the time (it was probably checked by the independent at the time). So, arriving home I bought a 920mm Dipstick from ebay (link below - hope its okay - Im not advertising this product): Transmission Gearbox Dipstick For Mercedes W163 W168 W203 W208 W210 W211 W220 | eBay

My question is, the dipstick is marked from 1 to 12 - Great. But what level should the transmission be kept at, both in terms of volume, and also in terms of 'number' on the above linked dipstick?

Thanks for your help!

You should have bought one that was correctly marked. Never mind.

The lower atf temp. range (@25C) is between 10 mm and 20 mm from the bottom.

The upper atf temp. range when HOT (@80C) is between 55 mm and 65 mm from the bottom.
This is the one to use, measured with the engine running and 'box in Park.

You should fix the leak really, why did the indie not do it whilst up on lift? The pilot bush (electrical plug) is the most common cause - an easy, cheap fix.
The volume of atf when at the correct level is 7.5L.
The difference between the upper and lower levels is quite small, 0.5L?

Thanks! Wasn't sure what a correctly marked one looks like - I probably should have asked here first. I guess a few nicks with a Stanley blade at the levels you've given me will suffice on the generic one. Should be good enough to get a ballpark feel.

The leak isn't from the electrical connector, but where a small shaft goes into the box - Stood under the car looking forward its on the left hand side about halfway along the box.

I'll bear the electrical connector issue in mind though, probably worth adding a new seal at the same time!

EDIT:

Car is booked in for 28th to have all issues sorted at same time.

Re. the dipstick, I've got one of these. On mine, the numbers appear on one side, and the hot and cold levels on the other side, of the black plastic end.
