Hi, this is my first post on here and hopefully its not going to be one that ends up with me being told the gearbox in my new car is nackered :D

Anyway, the car I have just bought (09 C320 CDI) seems to not change gear as smoothy when stone cold as it does once has done a couple of miles. By not smoothly the car isnt jerky on changes but feels like it doesnt blend the gears as it does once warm and only in the lower gears, also when pulling up to a stop I can feel a slight engine braking sensation going down the lower gears, Once warm i.e a couple of miles the box is seamless.

My dad has a E350 with the same box and he says his does the same thing and always has, but, I googled cold shifting 7G Tronic and got pages of expensive valve body faults and am now slighty ******* myself.

Is this fairly normal or should I be preparing my wallet, hopefully the former.

Mine does the same, driven a few that do

Well thats good to hear! I have never had an auto before let alone a "prestige" car, most my previous cars have been awkward at best when cold, then again they were mainly japanese 4wd over turbocharged under refined motors.

I had a 2010 320 CDI and it did the same up to the 135,000 miles I had done when I sold it. There are some fixes if you cant live with it and independent specialists can resolve but I never felt the need.

Well they all do that, sir.

With software updates on both engine and box mine was cured. I've posted on this subject some time back.
