7g Tronic Plus software update? Belfast?

I'm confused , I telephoned two main dealers and two independents and they all said every 5 years or 77.5K for the 7g+ ....

This is correct. And it's also listed in the service booklet.

I had the ATF changed today at Mercedes Benz Brooklands... will let you know tomorrow if the cold shifts have improved:)

Already had the TCU and ESM software updated last year.

That sounds interesting! I just wish Agnew Mercedes of Belfast were more helpful. Do you mind if I ask which dealer carried out the work for you and what they charged?

The way my gearbox is shifting is completely ruining the car for me. If I can't get it resolved I'm afraid I'll just have to chop it in for something else.

It was Mercedes Benz North Wales which is in Llandudno Junction.
I have a service plan so I'm not sure what the cost would have been.
When I get home from my shift on Thursday I'll look the service sheet out and see what's on there regarding the software update

Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place as this is the first I’ve posted in quite some time.

I’ve recently come back to Mercedes ownership with a late 2011 W204 C250 cdi with the 7g Tronic plus gearbox.

I’m having issues with the transmission holding on to 1st and 2nd gear too long and also hard shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd when cold. All other gear changes are silky smooth.
I’ve spoken with a Mercedes specialist who has said the software version on the gearbox is from year 2011 and that an updated one should cure the hard shifting.

I’ve spoken with Agnew Mercedes in Belfast who have checked my cars VIN and are telling me there software on my gearbox would be the most up to date. They aren’t willing to do take the car in to check for updates at all.

My difficulty here is that Agnew Mercedes of Belfast are the only Mercedes dealers in Northern Ireland so I’m not sure what I should do next.

Would anyone happen to know of any indies or Mercedes dealers in Northern Ireland or Ireland that would be willing to update my gearbox software and adaptions?

Thanks in advance!

Gary

Ring nitec auto repairs in Garavgh, excellent place and registered full mercedes specialist .

Anyone knows how to check the transmission software version?
Mine is also w212 with 7G+ .

What's the ATF MB spec ?

Any data sheet , MJ ?
No ATF spec - it's on a service plan, so there's no invoice showing part numbers etc, just a service sheet saying the ATF was replaced.

I don't think you can do this without STAR. Perhaps someone with iCarsoft can check if the software version is showing?

I recon it's MB 236.15 .

Fuchs TITAN ATF 7134 FE .

It's incredibly thin .

Just 18 centiStokes @ 40°C and
4.4 centiStokes @ 100°C .

Yes, that's the correct spec.
It is a blue/green colour to distinguish it from the previous spec ATF (236.14) which was red. The two spec ATFs are not miscible.

I understand that it was developed in conjunction with Fuchs and Shell but other oil producers have the equivalent now.

If a main dealer is changing the ATF make sure they include draining the TC. It takes longer to do and uses more ATF but does mean that it is fully done.

That's strange Mark , everything fluid wise has a manufacturer spec .

I'm sure it does, and it's probably on the BEVO spec list as well.

What I am saying is that the ATF spec is not listed in the service report I received from MB.

I could have asked, obviously, but I didn't... so I don't know.

I did ask however if they also drained the Torque Converted (yes they did, apparently it has a drain plug), and which engine oil they used (Petronas Premium Oil 5W-40 229.5).

On another note, the workshop is adjacent to the waiting area, and there's a glass wall through which you can see almost all of the service bays, apart from a couple in the corner that are out of view. Now gues which bay my car was in.... :(

These gearboxes are strange , on the kickdown they rev their tits off to 4.5K despite pulling the flappy for another gear , now I've seen a few dyno print outs where peak horse power is made at just 3.5K and the torque is also made early in the rev range so why does it need to go to 4.5K ?

I found better and more immediate progress is made by part throttle and riding the wave of torque .

Instead of the kick down , high revs where the hp and torque has significantly dropped off .
Then it goes into the next gear and you make progress .

Which specialist have you spoken with in Northern Ireland?

Which specialist have you spoken with in Northern Ireland?

The dealer that I bought the car from sent it to Metcalfe Motors in Dollingstown. This is who has told me they can't really see anything much wrong with the gearbox and just that the software update should hopefully cure it. Ive driven a few other cars with the same engine/gearbox to compare and I definitely don't think it is quite right.

I have booked the car in with Creevy Autos in Crossnacreevy for the gearbox service on Friday as the dealer I bought it from isn't willing to have it serviced or updated for me.

Belfast Mercedes experts found here at Creevy Autos, but can you leave it a week as my car has just arrived with them on the back of a truck and I don't want them too busy LOL They are fully equipped with MB STAR diagnostics...

Creevy Autos - independent Mercedes Benz Specialist - Belfast,County Down-Northern Ireland N.I.

EDIT - just noticed that my post is totally redundant! Best of luck and please don't be going back to Agnew again (unless it's warranty work), they're money grabbing, useless shower of... mmm... maybe I'll stop now in case they sue me!

You can really only check to see if a software update is possible by plugging into Star and trying. I say "really" because you could look at the VeDOK records to see if one has been done on the gearbox and then take a view on when it was done, and if it was very recent say "well its really unlikely to need a software update".

I.e. there is no system that I have seen that allows a dealer to say "here is the VIN, what software is on all the control units according to VeDOK, is there newer software for any of them" .. Especially as its only more recently that software update versions of everything get written back to the data card in VeDOK (which is where the datacard, serial numbers, map licence keys, etc etc are all held for each vehicle)

I suspect they looked to see if there were any recalls/service bulletins that said "update the software" and there was not - I was told by a MB tech that I properly trust that you should do engine and gearbox software together.

Richard.

Hi all, just thought i would update everyone on how I have been getting on with my transmission issues.

The car went for it's transmission service at Creevy Autos (merc specialist) on 14th December which helped a bit with the hard shifting from 1st to 2nd but didn't stop it from holding on to gears for too long.

I phoned Mercedes Benz of Belfast who agreed to bring the car in for a Diagnosis appointment for £99+VAT. During this they would carry out a full health check on the car and would look for any software updates available. I booked the car in for 27th December to have this carried out.

On 27th December I brought the car up to the Mercedes dealership and one of their Master Techs came out for a road test with me. He noticed the issue as soon as we pulled out of the car park. They got me a lift home then phoned me later in the day to say that they had carried out the health check and found no issues with the car but that there were engine and transmission software updates available and asked if i was happy for them to be applied. They sent a car back to pick me up and to my surprise when i got to the dealership they had washed the car and told me that they were not going to charge me for the diagnosis or software updates as it will most likely have to come back for shift adaptions at a cost of £260 inc VAT. (they wouldn't have had the time to do these on the day).

I don't feel any difference in the transmission at all from it was updated. Does £260 sound expensive? I don't know of anywhere else in Northern Ireland that can carry out the adaptions for me :(
