We drove back from the South of Germany yesterday ... today the temperature has hit 40C, and they have a blanket 80 kph (50 mph) speed restriction in force due to the effect on the road surfaces. A narrow escape!

I too have been wafting around in the SL at around 50 mph , roof down - it is very pleasant .

I took the SL for MOT today - a lovely roof-down drive, temperature was just right :)

Just took Sl for a wash and polish at the local car wash as I'm taking her clothes n doors out for a meal after 33 years. Here's hoping she scrubbed up as good

You don't need to go to Germany to enjoy a 50mph limit - have you driven down the M3 lately? Bonus is that I got 50mpg shown on the OBC - doesn't happen very often!

Yes last time we went to Portsmouth we went via the M3 - big mistake! Came back on the A3 :)

I agree about the M3 - had to do a trip to Salisbury from London last weekend and it was 50mph limit all the way. We knew it was limited near the M25 so thought we'd be clever and went via back roads to join the motorway at Bagshot, but the limit continued way beyond that up to the A303. Bugger!

Upside was we recorded our best fuel consumption figure yet on the return journey of 39MPG. Right up until we hit the "SOUTH WEST LONDON CORDONNED OFF FOR RANDOM CYCLING EVENTS" road closures. An hour from Salisbury to the end of the M3, then a further 2 hours from there to Wandsworth. Aaaaaarrgh!!!

The 50 limit around the M3/M25 junction is permanent - goodness knows why, there are far busier motorway intersections that manage fine with normal speed limits.
