Not keen on the blue stickers all over it [emoji23]

Looks like an interesting car. I've seen that conversion a done a couple of times. It appears that a W126 560SEL motor will drop right into a W123 engine bay.

Wouldn't bother me a great deal, as long as the exposed metal isn't exposed rust.

Yeah I've seen a few backyard conversions of M117 engine into a w123. What's interesting about this one is that it left the factory with that engine. Did some digging and it appears to have started life as a AMG brochure car. I'm guessing someone at AMG pulled a leg at MB.

Does look awesome Rob ey... The good old days when the 'AMG' badge/body kit was not stuck on every car as an aesthetically pleasing 'optional extra'. I know....I was only a sperm cell at the time but even I can see how far standards have fallen since.

Seeing those Recaro Classic C's in a C123 makes my toes tickle... can't wait to fit a pair to mine!

Were any actually made by the factory ? If so its the first I've heard. The back street boys were always putting the bigger v8s into the smaller cars until AMG started to do it too with 500e Beware the chassis plates. Very easy in the old days to buy new ones and have them stamped up.
What is the Bureau of Automative Repair? Had it been in a accident and then rebuilt with the bigger engine new paint and interior.
I'm sure AMG would have a record of it somewhere if its genuine.
Apart from that it looks horrible IMHO.

Don't believe any were ever made from factory. Did some more digging on AMG brochures which indicate that they offered various upgrades for the m110 engine (280e, 280ce, 280te) which saw power increases from 10hp to 45hp. If this wasn't enough then you could tick the box at the bottom of the list which was ' 500CE - 5.0-litre M117 V8 conversion'. This was approved and supplied new from MB. From what I've read, the 'bureau of automotive repair' stamp is a regulatory stamp which is required when putting in an engine which is different to what it left the factory with. It needs to be approved and undergo smog tests, etc.

Here is a picture of that very car in the AMG brochure. Not sure if it was by mistake or not, but it's ashame the black strips on the front bumper were not kept black on the red one.

Won't be everyone's cup of tea, but then again, nothing ever is. The colour pops well but imho it looks a million times better in 'all black' everything attire.
