Dear Experts:

My 1990 300E 2.6 140k mile car, stalls when I step on gas fast.
It runs fine when step on slowly.

I suspected fuel filter, but it wasn't that.
When I look at the air flow meter, while open up the throttle suddenly, it closes up immediately after it opens up.

It also idles unstable when the engine reaches normal temperature and D or R position.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

Don

First hit is an air leak causing the mixture to go lean. This then causes a spit back which closes the intake flap.

Check ALL inlet manifold vacuum connections for undue leakage.

Is the dizzy cap recent?

Thanks for suggestion.

Thank you very much for the tip.

I've checked all vacuum links.

Nothing look bad.

I took out idle control module and found that the slot is opened at normal about 1.5mm.
Is this normal?

I applied 12V across the terminal.
Then it's wide opened to the opposite side, meaning it jumped to the other side of the slot to be wide open.

Thanks for the reply again.

Would you tell me what's the dizzy cap?

Thank you for the reply.

Sorry, I'm not familar w/ the term.

Would you let me know what's the dizzy cap and where I can find it?

Thanks,

Don

Ignition distributor cap. It's on the front of the engine.

300E 2.6?

Not a 3.0? No help on the thread, just a stupid question...

I'm narrowing down to the cap now, thank for that!!;)
But before I replace it, I try to change the timing.
I have difficulty to find the way to change the timing, though.
Any idea how I can change timing?

Thanks,

Don

They did a 260E which was 6 cylinder , but i'm sure the 300 was a 3.0 L ...

This is a w124 ? we had a 1986 300TE , and i'm sure that was a 3.0 L ....

300e 2.6

In the states they did call the 2.6 engined W124 the 300E 2.6 Why I have no idea except that maybe the 300E engined car was the only petrol USA model at first with diesels and v8s coming later.
