Currently looking into buying a 1991 500SL.

Does anyone know at what intervals the cam chain is to be replaced? I am led to believe that 100,000 miles is correct.

Roughly how much would you expect to pay for the job to be carried out?

Cheers in advance.

You dont need to at all. Itll be a duplex chain, ive never known anyone having to replace one due to wear and tear except on vans. I would only think about it if you start to get rattles or you get past about 300K..

The 500 is notorious for cam chain problems, though not usually caused by the chain itself.
The chain giudes can break and then it's bye bye.

The amount of stretch can be measured by turning the crankshaft away from TDC and seeing how much the cams lag by. Any more than 5 degrees calls for some action.
