300ce-24 sportline
I found this whilst surfing 300CE for Sale

and I contacted the owner to ask if it was a Sportline, as it looked as if it might be one. They have checked and MB confirm it is. They have emailed me asking what it might be worth for a private sale. I guess it is about £3500-4000? Do you think it will also be a 24v if it is a Sportline? It might have the 5speed auto too being a '92 car.

The car had been on ebay with an ad that did not really help sell the car at £2500 and got no bids.

I'd be surprised if it was a sportsline with no air and no leather. Looks like it might be a sportsline steering wheel mind, so it may well be.

The sportsline coupes are also a rather harsh, with a lot of the road surface felt in the cabin. I dont think it effects value either way as some people like the firmer ride, others like the comfort.

As for the price, its very difficult to judge. Its a 12 year old car so price is very condition dependent - not appreciable by pictures. There's no mention of service history, theres no aircon and no leather - both an absolute must to get serious money so I think £3500 is about right, £4000 if the paintwork is immaculate.

Sportline's only had leather as an option and air-con would only be there if it was specified.

It does have the Sportline pattern on the seats tho'.

Remember that there was 2 Sportline packages available, 1 was suspension/steering. The other was interior, but you could order the Sportline upholstery on standard seats if you did not want the sports seats.

There is a facelift E220 coupe with AMG kit/wheels, leather, air etc in this weeks Autotrader for £3,500

Looks like a sportline to me.

Seats and steering wheel are correct, it also looks slightly lower than a standard CE (may be my eyes though! ;)) Best way to check would be to take the VIN number to a dealership and get a print out of all options specified ;)

As with any second hand car, value is dependant on what people are prepared to pay!

It does look in good order, so if it has all the right credentials, eg a good service history etc, and is a straight car, it should sell without too much hassle.

Have a search on ebay/autotrader etc for similar cars and see if they have actually sold.

No leather or air con is a bit of a downer though IMHO.

Good Luck,

Cheers,

Will

The point I was trying to make is that I thought it unusual to specify a sportline option whilst skimping elsewhere. :o

it's got the reg number in the ads - pop down to your friendly local MB parts department and ask them to pull up it's details - may well cost you a couple of pints but they should be able to shed some light on things for you.

There were a lot of strange "personallly" specced CEs built. This one is unusual, but if you wanted grippy seats and sporty suspension and live in Scotland then it might be a good choice for you.

An article I read somewhere said that they had heard of one car that had everything heating but nothing cooling, ie, no sunroof, no climate, but heated everything!

I am right in thinking that in the UK at least, sportline was only an option on 300CE-24vs ?

Most Sportline's I have seen have had cloth interiors. Most 'sport' options on cars don't have leather or air, these are saved for the luxury models. If you want to be sporty why waste power and weight on air con whilst sliding about on leather seats. Nothing to with being the best nation of people at all ;)

The Sportline option was available on W201' and all W124's except the 4-Matic. The full sportline interior pack was not available for the coupes

NO it wont be the 24 V engine unless described as such.
NO it won't have the 5 speed auto box as it was only an expensive option on the 300-24v at that time I think. (think the advert says 4 speed box)

I would be wary of a car description that includes
"Enhanced Offroad Package" usually means a sump guard and heavy duty (possibly slightly raised) suspension which is a contradiction in terms with Sportline model which has a lowered suspension. strange one that .

Shaun of the Dead

This would qualify as a Shaun of the Dead thread then?;) Its on ITV2 tonight I noticed.
