92K S400 with a head gasket issue

I have been looking a car local to me, the head gasket is going, what should I budget for a decent indie to sort?

M119 engine called a 400 until 1993 when it became a 420 it is really a 4.2 V8

Yes a V8.

I would think at least a £1000. You may have to budget for a engine loom too as these are getting a little tired.

You must take into account that the heads may be damaged too. Unlikely but a possibility.

Does make it look uneconomic, agree on wiring loom all that movement would potentially affect it. Another S class for the parts bin probably

Very rare for headgaskets to go on these, what makes you think there gone. Also never changed a loom on one (yet)
